Gabi tells Rafe that she knows who killed Charlie. The killer is Ava Vitale. Gabi saw her sneak out of the house the night Charlie was killed. Rafe remembers questioning Ava about the fact that her bed had not been slept in the night of the murder. Ava told him that she made the bed before going out early for eggs.
Ava arrives and Rafe asks why she lied to him? Gabi saw her leave the house the night of the murder. Ava admits she couldn't sleep and went out. She finally tells Rafe that she went to Charlie's but she did not kill him. She found him lying in a pool of blood. He was still alive. He stopped her from calling for help. Charlie wanted to hear his mother tell him that she loved him. He died after hearing his mother tell him that she loved him. Rafe takes her hand after hearing her story.
Ava apologizes that she didn't tell Rafe the truth earlier. Rafe is sorry that she has been holding all of this in for so long. Ava knows that she failed Charlie. She questions why she could not fake affection for her son. Rafe asks why she held all this back? Ava flashes back to telling Nicole that she had to protect Tripp.
