In Rafe's kitchen, Ava and Tripp are talking about the latest in the case against Sami. Tripp tells Ava that Sami falsely confessed to protect Allie but he believes neither of them did it. Ava says then the killer is still at large. She and Tripp both have flashbacks of going to Charlie's apartment. Tripp says he has to tell her something.
Nicole shows up. Tripp asks how Henry is. Nicole feels bad about leaving Allie alone with Henry because the baby is teething. Tripp takes off to go help Allie.
Nicole has brought Ava's favorite Italian cookies. She wants to apologize for jumping to conclusions and assuming Ava went to Charlie's apartment. Ava says Nicole isn't wrong. She was furious after Nicole told her what Charlie had said. She wanted to protect Tripp. And she couldn't get Charlie out of her head.
There is another flashback, this time of a few of Ava's hallucinations. Then Ava says she headed over to confront Charlie. Nicole says you said you didn't kill him. Is that true?
Nicole backtracks. Ava doesn't have to tell her. Ava wants to.
Ava explains that she did not kill Charlie. In flashback, we see that she opened Charlie's apartment door and came in to find him on the floor. He was not dead yet. Ava was about to call 911 but Charlie said no. He said he was dying but he was glad she was here. He said he loved her. Please before he dies, tell him she loves him too. Ava said of course she did. She started to call 911 but Charlie closed his eyes and was gone.
Nicole asks Ava why she didn't tell Rafe or the police this. Ava had her reasons. You see, as she was coming into Charlie's apartment, she saw someone leaving. That someone was Tripp.

I think Tripp is innocent, but I don't know.

This is like Agatha Christie. Everyone in town traipsed through Charlie's place on the night he died.
Ava's tale was sad.

I think Ava did love her son, but hated the things he did. I feel like it would have helped if she hadn't favored Tripp so much but that doesn't excuse Charlie's actions. Maybe the person who killed Charlie is someone we don't suspect at all or never saw or just a mentioned character who wasn't even part of the show but idk.
