In honor of MyHourglass' 10th anniversary today, I've decided to put together some threads to discuss the events of the last 10 years. One of the more unique trends of the last decade is that Days occasionally devotes an entire episode to a single storyline. Usually it’s part of an ongoing storyline, and the episode in question usually has at least one or more major events happen within said storyline. Which single storyline episode has been your favorite?
For me, it’s a three-way tie: 1. The Return of Aiden. We saw at the end of one episode that Aiden was back, then we spend the whole next episode finding out where he’d been, when we thought he had onscreen months earlier. Aiden’s plight was really compelling to me! It was fascinating watching him escape from where André was keeping him. And though it would later be re-retconned so Aiden was always a terrible person, the episode as a standalone is still one of my favorites.
2. Eulogizing Stefano. Though my favorite DiMera will always be André, there is no denying that there will never be a villain like Stefano DiMera. He was cunning, calculating, vicious and embodied a type of suave, sophisticated evil that hasn’t been seen since. Taking a full episode to eulogize him makes perfect sense. I loved seeing the flashbacks to some of his greatest schemes, which is something we don’t get very much anymore (flashbacks of things that happened years, sometimes even decades ago, as opposed to flashbacks to things that happened literally half of a millisecond ago like we get now).
3. Hope coming to terms with killing Stefano. For months after shooting him, Hope was a total mess, and this was the episode where she finally seemed to get some closure. It featured the returns of not only Stefano, but Bo, Larry Welch, and a look at what Zack could have been like had he survived into teenagehood. Despite how the main story itself wasn’t great, all of these returns gave it a good ending. I teared up when Bo and Hope danced to “Tonight I Celebrate My Love” for the last time. It was a better ending than the story deserved, but I’m certainly glad we got it.

When they eulogized Stefano DiMera because it was like a final goodbye to Joe Mascolo

The one with the car crash we originally though Will caused, which killed Adrienne and in which Sara had her baby on the side of the road.
