SALEM INN DINING ROOM

Craig: I’m sorry we didn’t make it to Salem in time for the funerals.
Nancy: We’re here now, baby. You don’t have to go through this alone anymore.
Chloe: But I am alone. I’ve lost everything.
Nancy wipes a tear from Chloe’s face.
Nancy: It meant so much to us that you named the baby Wesley. I wish we had gotten to know him better. We only came to visit that one time.
Chloe: I wish you could have visited us more often too.
Nancy: Your father wasn’t keen on staying at your house. He didn’t like Philip.
Craig: Shut up Nancy! Craig turns to Chloe. Sweetie, what your mother means is that I wish I would have gotten to know Philip better.
Chloe: So do I.
Nancy: How much was his life insurance policy worth?
Chloe: What???
Craig: That’s a good question, Nancy. Chloe, you need to look into his life insurance, if you haven’t already.
Nancy: That’s right! He was CEO of a large company. Large companies usually insure their executives for a mint!
Chloe: I don’t care about any of that.
Craig: You mother is right, Chloe. Philip probably had a large estate too. You really need to look into these things.
Nancy: We’ll help you, sweetie.


MAGGIE’S KITCHEN, THE NEXT DAY

Chloe is washing the dishes after lunch when there is a knock at the door. She dries her hands and goes to open the door.

Lucas: What the hell are you doing here?

Can't see why no one seems to care about her baby...even her parents, they are all about some life insurance? Man this is like some alternate world. By the way...where is Nicole? Victor steal her too?

Aww! I just feel terrible for Chloe. Everyone is just dumping on her since the "accident."

Can't wait for another chapter. I miss Nancy and Craig. They should make a pop up on screen for real soon! I would love ot have them back for a while!

I'm sad to see that Wesley and Philip are gone. Plus, that was horrible how awful everybody was to Chloe at the funeral.

Well, it doesn't look like Craig and Nancy are being any help.

I agree with ATD, I find Craig & Nancy's obsession over the money matters very odd and of no help to Chloe right now. There is plenty of time for practical matters but the way they are talking about it is rather unfeeling.

I suspect that Chloe's shock will be having Maggie show up to side with her over Lucas (I'd complain about the author's handling of my fave character if she hadn't killed her own fave off ... though I still suspect a trick).

MAGGIE’S KITCHEN

Chloe is washing the dishes from lunch when there is a knock at the door. She dries her hands and goes to open the door.

Lucas: What the hell are you doing here?
Chloe: Maggie invited me to stay with her.
Lucas: Are you planning to burn down this house too? Is the oven on?
Chloe turns away and grows quiet.
Lucas: I guess I shouldn’t have said that.
Chloe: It’s fine. I deserve it. No one can say anything to hurt me any more than I’ve already been hurt.
Lucas: Um. Where’s Maggie?
Chloe: She’s at Chez Rouge. There’s some kind of event being held there this afternoon.
Lucas: I wanted to see her before I head back to Hong Kong.
Chloe: I’ll tell her you were here.
Lucas turns to leave, then stops and turns back to face Chloe.
Lucas: You know, I warned Philip not to marry you.
Chloe: I know.
Lucas: But he wouldn’t listen to reason.
Chloe: I wish he had. He and our baby would still be alive.
Lucas: I spoke to him on the phone a couple weeks before he died. I gave him a hard time then too. Geez, I never missed the chance to give Philip a hard time.

Lucas has a flashback to the phone conversation he had with Philip. Philip was in his office at Titan when he telephoned Lucas at his Hearth and Home office in Hong Kong.

Philip: Don’t tell me you’re burning the midnight oil. What time is it there, anyway?
Lucas: Nowhere near midnight, but it is getting late. What’s going on? Trouble in paradise? Chloe cheat on you yet?
Philip: You think you’re pretty funny, don’t you?
Lucas: Well, it’s just a matter of time, you know. I have a calendar here that says “number of days until Chloe cheats on Philip.” We’ve also got an office pool going on. It’s up to fifty six dollars!
Philip: Joke all you want, Lucas, it’s not gonna happen. Not this time.
Lucas: You sound uncharacteristically confident.
Philip: I am. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. In fact, I’m happier than I’ve been in my entire life. I didn’t even know it was possible to be this happy.
Lucas: Who are you and what have you done with my little brother?
Philip: Ha! Your little brother isn’t a kid anymore. He’s a grown-up family man with the best wife and son anyone could ever want. I’ve got it all, buddy.
Lucas: I hope you’re right. I would hate to see you fall off that cloud you’re sitting on.
Philip: I’m not worried. Hey listen, man, I called to ask you a business question.
Lucas: Shoot.
End of flashback.

Lucas: I’m not your biggest fan, Chloe.
Chloe: I don’t blame you.
Lucas: But we have something pretty important in common.
Chloe: What?
Lucas: We both loved Philip. And you made Philip happy. When we talked on the phone, I hardly knew him. It’s like he went through some kind of metamorphosis. Anyway, you were good for him. So you should stop beating yourself up.
Chloe: Thank you for saying that, Lucas. I mean that. Thank you.

waaaaaaaaaaa!! I want Philip and Wesley back. So glad that Lucas was nice to Chloe, I can't imagine the pain of losing hsband and baby all in one fell swoop. {{shudder}}
