I'm going to guess that Chloe knows about some of Philip's gambling issues and that's what got complicated between them while they were out of town.

Chloe probably knows because philip tells her in salem, don't really like that she betrays his confidence like this, maybe she tells him thinking he knows what it's like to have an addiction, and that he's family.
