Unfortunately, I think a channel devoted to showing reruns was doomed from the start. In the age of TIVO and DVRs, who needs to tune in to watch when they could just as easily FF commercials with DVR? I don't think it had anything to do with the content, it was just a flawed concept. If they had shown reruns from the 80s, or 90s, or montage shows, I think they woould have been WAY more successful. But "Watch today's shows a few hours later" is silly, IMO.
Of course a channel devoted to 2 year olds is just as dumb, but whatever.

I think Soapnet should have shown more of the older soaps like Santa Barbara, Edge of Night, Capitol, and so on instead of 4 hours a day of BH 90210, One tree hill and the like. You can't tell me that the networks wouldn't have let them air the old soaps for not that much money. They aren't making any money sitting on a shelf somewhere. They occasionally had marathons of classic episodes from the ABC soaps. There should have been a lot more of that. I like being able to watch it later on soapnet when the show is interrupted for news that isn't earthshattering. The cancellation of Soapnet has been in the works for about a year I think. After all it's owned by ABC who obviously sees no value in soaps.

I would have loved to see old episodes of Another World or Santa Barbara.. how fun that would have been.

Lame... PBS Sprout already has a 24/7 preschool channel... we need our SOAPnet. We also have Nick Jr which is 24 hours of preschool TV. In addition to Disney, PBS Sprout and Nickelodeon on-demand. I'm already OD'd on kids TV.

I dont' have DVR so I've always caught up either online or on soapnet. I"m with you fluffy. We have 15 kids channels now so another one is definately not needed in this household.

Disney's war against soaps has made me root for them to fail in all of their TV endeavors. I hope their new preschool channel costs them money .... same goes for their stupid Chew, Revolution and Katie Couric shows.
I think they've misjudged all of these decisions. The soap genre predates TV itself and still survives (barely, but it's still here) whereas the reality genre that Disney is banking on has already peaked and on the way out after barely a decade. Meanwhile, we are seeing a resurgence in primetime dramas and there is even a new primetime soap on the horizon (a second generation of Dallas) that I predict is going to be a big hit. ABC should have put their efforts into helping along a resurgence in soaps rather than betting on a trendy little genre that is nearly done.
