I think that maybe Gwen is trying to gaslight Abigail because she wants Chad for herself. Isn't that usually what women who torture Abigail want? Plus Gwen likes the finer things in life, and getting Chad into her clutches will enable her to live a life where she doesn't have to do anything except sit around all day. I know the timeline doesn't make sense, but this is the best theory I can think of in regards to Gwen's motives.

I think Chad is a side benefit as an FU to both Jake and Abby. The beef isn't about Chad, Abby or one of her alters did something that Gwen blames her for. This is revenge.
On the Jan front, people in this town including Shawn and Belle are forgetting who Jan was before the obsession with Shawn took over. She was a mean girl and not just mean. Jan Spears was a cruel, vindictive bully who did a lot of terrible things for a teenage girl. The Love Cage was her at the height of crazy but I remember Opergirl.net. She was a terrible person.
So even if she' recovered (which I believe is possible) it's completely plausible that she's still awful. We need Chloe back in town so she can give Claire a rundown on who her new bestie is and what she is capable of pre-crazy.
