SAMI: Oh Lucas. You are just being silly and paranoid.
LUCAS: Oh really?? Have you heard anything prior to now about needing people in Australia?
SAMI: Well, uh....
LUCAS: That's what I thought. This is the first you've heard anything about it and you don't find it the least bit suspicious, not to mention the fact that EJ is going too?

[sportsgirl]

SAMI: Okay yeah it's fishy but what am I supposed to do? Turn it down? And don't you trust me with EJ? There is no way I will ever get involved with him again. Lucas, I really want this job.

[gapeach]

LUCAS: I know you do Sami, I just think we need to think this through a little more. After all, this is our future we are talking about.
SAMI: You are right Lucas. You and the children are my future. I will get Dad to check out this job offer and see what turns up.

[mae00]

CHLOE (on phone): Hey dad, it's Chloe! I just wanted to call and say Thank you SOOOOO much for the ticket to Madame Butterfly! I'm so excited that I can't wait to go and see it!


Meanwhile:

SAMI (on phone): Hey dad. It's Sami. Look, I just got a job offer but if I take it, it means that I have to go to Sydney Australia. Lucas seems to think something isn't quite right with the offer so can you look into it for me?

[sportsgirl]

Craig: Ticket? What ticket?

Roman: What 'da hell? Australia?

CHLOE: The ticket that you mailed to me. I just got it today. It was 1 ticket to see Madam Butterfly at the Salem Opera House.


SAMI: Yes dad, Australia. Kate offered me the chance to head the new branch of CW in Sydney Australia. Lucas seems to think that something is a little too convenient in the timing. Plus he doesn't like that EJ will be there also.

[gapeach]

CRAIG: Sweetie, I didn't mail you a ticket to Madame Butterfly.

ROMAN: If Kate is involved, you can bet there is something strange going on.

[sportsgirl]

CHLOE: If it's not from you, then who would have sent it?


SAMI: Yeah, that what Lucas thinks too.. I can't believe you ever were married to her.

[gapeach]

Sami and Lucas are talking about her 'promotion' when the phone rings.
LUCAS: Hello.
PHILLIP (VO): Hey bro... we need to talk.
LUCAS: Sure thing, what's up?
PHILLIP (VO): Not over the phone. Can Chloe and I come over?
LUCAS: Uh, sure. Is everything okay?
PHILLIP (VO): Will tell you when we get there. Is Sami around?
LUCAS: Yeah man, she is sitting right here.
PHILLIP (VO): Good, we need to talk to both of you!

[gapeach]

A month has gone by since Sami / Lucas and Phillip / Chloe talked.

Phillip: Man, I can't believe the lengths Mother went to... just to keep us apart from the ladies we love.

Lucas: Well you know mom... nobody is good enough for her sons!

Meanwhile across town Kate is at Justin's law office.

Kate: Is this true? Why didn't you bring this up before?"

Justin: I had planned to, but then Philip and Chloe came back to town with news of their marriage, I just didn't have the heart.

Kate: It is your legal duty as an officer of the court to report matters like this. What happened to your sense of ethics?

Justin: You are seriously going to lecture me about ethics? We have a whole file cabinet in the storeroom just on you alone.

Kate: This is about my baby and his happiness. You've stolen precious time from him.

Justin: He seems pretty happy to me right now.

Kate: You don't know him like I do. He's not happy, he's just resigned to his fate, trying to do the right thing. But this little document changes everything.

Justin: And what about Melanie? She just got engaged to Chad, your stepson.

Kate: I will handle them. Once Philip and Melanie find out their divorce was never finalized, everything will fall into place. This must be my lucky day. I will finally free my son from that treacherous tart once and for all. (She gleefully floats out of the office)

Justin: I think I made a terrible mistake. I better call Uncle Victor.

[gapeach]

Justin: Uncle Victor, we need to talk.
Victor: Of course Justin. What is on your mind?
Justin: I found documentation that proves Phillip and Melanie's divorce was never finalized and Kate knows.
Victor: And what do you want me to do about this? To me this is wonderful news because this means that Phillip and Chloe's marriage is invalid.
Justin: Yes, but Melanie is engaged to Chad DiMera, so do you really want to cause problems there? Afterall, the families are getting along much better now then in the past.
Victor: You are right, as usual. Let me see what I can do.

Victor under his breath: Damn, just when I thought of a way to get Chloe out of our lives...

***Chez Rouge – dinner time – Kate and Victor together at a table

Victor: Can you sit still? When you fidget like that you make me think you’re up to something.

Kate: What could I possibly be up to in the middle of a crowded restaurant?

Victor: I don’t know…your latest plot to get rid of Chloe?

Kate: Oh I’ve given all that up. If Philip wants Chloe, so be it.

Victor: Yeah right. I warned you Kate, no using this divorce issue to start trouble. Business is going well, and Maggie would have my head if you did anything to ruin my truce with the Dimeras.

Maggie: Damn straight I would. (Maggie breezes into her chair, kissing Victor on the cheek) Hi Sweetie.

Kate: You told her about this?”

Victor: Of course I did. She’s my wife. And she agrees with me. We are just going to apprise them of the situation and let them handle it. No meddling.

Maggie: I’m not going to let you destroy my granddaughter’s happiness.

Kate: Despite what you both think of me everything I do is because I love my children. I only have their best interests at heart.

Maggie: I’m sure Lucas and Philip would beg to differ.

Kate: I can admit to not liking Sami or Chloe, but that is ONLY because I don’t think either of them love my sons the way they deserve.

Victor: I don’t like Chloe either, but Philip made his choice. He’s an adult, we just have to let go.

Kate: I’m trying, but it’s so hard living in Salem. I get bored. This town is in the middle of nowhere and all it has going for it is the smelly old river and a reputation for miraculous reincarnations. Nine times out of ten I have to create my own drama.

Victor: Something will happen soon, Chloe usually self-destructs right around the year mark of her relationships.

(Maggie shakes her finger at Victor, indicating to him to behave.)

Kate: I’ve been going about this all wrong. I was so concerned about getting rid of her when I should have been focusing on Philip.

Victor: As much as I hate to admit it, Philip seems happy with Chloe.

Maggie: I think so too.

Kate: But haven’t you see him look happier? And Maggie is Melanie happy?

Maggie: Yes she loves Chad very much.

Kate: (sighs) Don’t you just think it is odd that Philip has been back since last winter and not once has he mentioned Melanie.

Victor: (shrugs) I figured he was trying to put that pain behind him.

Kate: Has Melanie mentioned Philip?

Maggie: Come to think of it, not for over a year.

Kate: Maybe all of this is just wishful thinking on my part, but I just get the sense…(Kate stops mid sentence when she sees Melanie enter the front door of Chez Rouge followed by Philip) Look there they are.


****The front door of Chez Rouge

Philip: Melanie, I didn’t expect to see you here.

Melanie: (looking very surprised to see him behind her) Me either. I’m usually better at avoiding you than this.

Philip: (laughs a bit) What? I’m the one that’s been avoiding you.

Melanie: (laughs a bit too) Looks like we were on the same wavelength.

Philip: I’m told that’s common with kindred spirits.

Melanie: (She stares at him a moment, shaken by his words. The spark she used to feel whenever she was with him, returning full force.) So how you been?

Philip: Good. (Grabbing her hand and looking at her ring) I hear congratulations are in order.

Melanie: (turning his hand over in hers to reveal his ring) Looks like for you too.

Philip: Yeah, Chloe and I have been married for a while now.

Melanie: I’m glad you’ve found someone to make you happy.

Philip: I’m glad for you too. I’ve always wanted the best for you.

(Philip looks at her intensely, a wave of emotions hitting him, feelings he had worked so long to suppress. Her hand twitches, and he looks down to see they are still holding hands. He drops it abruptly, embarrassed he had touched her so long.)


*** Back at the table with Kate, Victor and Maggie.

Kate: (hitting Victor’s arm) Put your glasses on Victor and pay attention.

Victor: What am I looking at?

Maggie: (turns in the direction that Kate and Victor are staring to see Philip and Melanie talking.) Oh my.

Kate: Do you see?

Victor: Just because there’s something still between them doesn’t mean they want to be together.

Maggie: I hate to say it but I think Kate might be on to something.

Kate: Thank you Maggie. So what are we going to do about?

Victor: Nothing. Let nature take its course.

Maggie: I agree. Only Philip and Melanie know whether this is something they want to act on.

Kate: For now maybe, but even Mother Nature needs a little push sometimes.


****The front door of Chez Rouge

Philip: I better go. I’m here to have dinner with my parents.

Melanie: I’m meeting Kate and Victor too.

Philip: Really? (smiling) I guess you and I will be spending the evening together. I hope that’s all right with you.

(They look into each others eyes, not moving as people try to edge past them through the doors to get into the restaurant.)

In the meanwhile, Nicole comes to visit Chloe and finds her all alone...

Nicole: Hey girlfriend, what gives? Where's your hubby?
Chloe: He went to have dinner with his parents and there is no way I was going to join him.
Nicole: Yeah, I understand that. What'd you say we go out & party ourselves.
Chloe: Nic, I don't think that's a good idea.
Nicole: Oh come one. Give me one good reason why we shouldn't.
Chloe: Since you put it that way, ok, but I can't stay out too late.
Nicole: Well I am really hungry, how about we splurge and go to Chez Rouge?
Chloe: Ok, sounds good & I love Maggie.. Just let me change my clothes.

[gapeach]

Meanwhile, Chad is talking with his father.
Chad: Dad, how about we go get something to eat?
Stefeno: Chad, what a marvelous idea. Let's go to Chez Rouge.
