That was his voice mail. Jack might go off to find himself, but he would not ignore his family like this...

There is no character that is beloved by all, heck even Maggie Horton has detractors, but Jack was and is still a popular character with lots of fans and Jack & Jennifer are a supercouple. It makes no sense for TPTB to suddenly try to write Jack so out of character and on top of that try to make it work when he isn't even onscreen. It's all very one sided and very little of that. I see nothing to be gained by breaking up yet another supercouple and offscreen at that. IMO, it's just more of Tomlin belittling Days and trying to replace veteran characters with more of his unknowns.
My other thought on this is why aren't the Salemites more suspicious? How many other times has Jack (and others) been out of touch or missing and it turns out that were being held captive by the Dimeras (or something similar)? Why hasn't anyone even had the passing thought that maybe he can't get in touch with them.

I think they believe it is easier if they can't get Matt Ashford to come back to just have problems between Jack and Jen than to keep explaining his absence. I don't like it one bit, but I can see their logic. If Jennifer is going to be on for any length of time that will get old really quick. It also gives them a chance to give her a story. Is it one I like? No. But it is a veteran with a story. Better than Rafe in the basement, that's for sure.

Not sure there's much more I can add to this. I was always a J&J fan. With Jennifer coming back last fall, I thought for sure Jack wouldn't be far behind. And if he wasn't coming back then at least they would just say he was back in London (or wherever they were living) working at the Spectator or off on some story somewhere around the world. I agree with the other posters who have said that TPTB seem to have purposely come up with this cockamamie story about Jack so that viewers would somehow be rooting for Jenn to get a divorce and therefore leaving her character open to new relationships. I get that it's a soap and generally speaking in order to have some sort of storyline going there has to be some romance in there. But the way they went about this is just bad. On a side note, I'm not totally closed to the idea of Daniel and Jennifer and can see why they've bonded a bit lately and have somewhat enjoyed their banter. But it just makes me wonder if Jenn files for divorce, falls in love with Daniel, and then all the sudden Jack shows up in Salem trying to win back the fair Jennifer just as she's about to walk down the aisle with Daniel. That's so Days' m.o.

True, that is their M.O. and you know it would be something like Jack was captured by pygmies after nearly dying (or in Jack's case being resurrected after dying) from some rare disease that took out his liver but some sexy Australian doctor put it back in for him ... and of course Jennifer now feels terribly guilty and is oh so confused so she must leave Dr. Sleaze at the altar because it just wouldn't be fair to him otherwise... Now that end of the story might be fun to watch.

Jack and Jenn have been together, apart and together again. I am sure that the divorce will only be for a while and then Jack will return and they will be back together again. Just like Bo and Hope.

Pallison-I'm actually in shock that you're not a Jennifer fan, LOL. I didn't think that was possible. Jack I can totally see as at times he was played as obnxious and I loathed Kayla's rape. But, I liked him with Jennifer. Hated him pushing her away into Frankie's arms. This time around, though, and with Jack's history of abandoning his family for the stupidest of reasons, I can totally see his story line. That's Jack. I love Jennifer. She's spunky and sweet. I always thought she was too good for Jack. But, they were a good balanced pair. At first I hated the idea of her and Daniel, but they are slowly building a fire there, and it's nice. So, if Jennifer can be happy with Dr. Feelgood, and he doesn't hit on her daughter, then I'm slowly approving the match.
