from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8606984/1/SOW: A Closer Look at Sami; 11/29 Issue What was your reaction to the news of the Sami/EJ sex?Literally, my first reaction was the classic soap gasp and picking my jaw up off the floor moment. I was shocked. I imagine my reaction was similar to the one the fans had when they saw it. How does Sami feel in the wake of sleeping with EJ?It’s a great turning point for my character. It’s funny, because she’s certainly had low points in the past, but I think there’s nothing truer to make someone revert to who they were or get back to basics than to pull them apart. This is something that really, really strikes deep for Sami. She’s always held herself on a the moral high ground about this: Carrie cheated on Lucas, Marlena cheated on Roman, and she looks around town at everyone else who does it and she’s always had it in her pocket that “I could do a lot of things, but I don’t do that,” and now she can’t stand by that, and it’s a terrible feeling. What is it about this duo that can bring them back together time and again?I don’t know. I think James Scott has described it that it doesn’t matter how they affect each other; they sort of need it. Even if it’s kicking, scratching, clawing, or loving, there is something chemically that keeps them in each other’s orbit. I definitely think it’s mutual. I think there is a side of her personality and EJ is someone she can experience those feelings with that nobody else has opened up. EJ also has that rage and anger in him and they feed off of each other in an incredibly dark way, really maybe hurting each other and hurting themselves. She would never be able to treat anyone else like that and maybe he doesn’t treat anyone else like that and they maybe save it for each other. How do you think the fans will react?I don’t think there are enough descriptive terms for what I am thinking will happen. I am definitely nervous, I am definitely excited, just as someone who gets to tell the story. I think it will generate a very strong reaction. Whether you love it or hate it, it is captivating in that you will want to see what happens next, no matter whose side you’re on, and that’s an exciting thing to be a part of. I think it will generate a very impassioned response. How does the Will twist make you feel?Old. Just kidding. I love it. I think that’s the best part of the story. I love that Will’s reaction is as impassioned and irrational as Sami’s was at the time of John and Marlena and continues to be. Ulitmately, Will loathes her like she loathed her mother. Just reading the scripts as a fan, yeah. I think it’s totally great symmetry. I cant wait to play out the scenes where Will confronts Sami, however, and whenever it happens, because I remember to this moment in time so clearly when I did those scenes and confronted Deidre, and I look forward to playing it on the other side. Just stop talking Sweeney, you sound like a puppet trying to sell this crap that you know is crap but don't have the guts to stand up and say no to. Since you don't care about Sami or her history, it's no suprise that you have no understanding of other characters either, so let me explain why the current filth is nothing like the Sami/Jarlena story.
Marlena (who I've always disliked) loved the man she lived with as her husband for years but when her real husband returned, she tried to make it work. She was wrong to cheat but the reasons are understandable. Marlena's a self righteous biddy but at least she has some self respect. She cheated on a man she loved with another man she loved who had always treated her with love and kindness. So even as a Marlena critic, I can't fault her for the romp in the conference room the night of the Titan party.... Sami on the other hand, cheats on a man she supposedly loves with a man who has treated her with nothing but violence and cruelty the second she hears her child is dead.... who the hell could ever like or respect someone like that ever again. Even as a long time Sami fan, I can say nothing to defend her and have enough respect for my fellow soap fans not to insult their intelligence with BS excuses for it. The only rational response for anyone walking in on that Jerry Springer nightmare is to flip their lid. Will knows this man raped his mother, tried to kill nearly ever member of his family, stole his baby sister and faked her death, coverd up Sami justifiably shooting the monster in the head ... and now he walks in on this.... short of killing them both on sight, there is no way for Will's reaction to be "over the top" or "irrational". Keep the spinning for the gym Sweeney, no one is buying your BS - Sami is ruined because of you and your spineless acceptance of something you knew was wrong and there is no talking your way out of it now.

The thing is (and I dont' necessarily disagree with you)is that Sweeney has to talk this up.It's part of her job to TRY and sell it,whether we like it or not.The writers are getting exactly what they want. They wanted us to react for good or bad,and thats exactly what we're all doing.

I disagree. The writers want "buzz" that pays off with increased viewership... one look at past ratings trends would have told them that "buzz" over this particular topic has always led to a decline in viewership. And as for Sweeney, the "I'm just doing my job" excuse may have worked the first time around but not now. She has more than enough influence at Days to have said no to this (as Roger Howarth and Louise Sorrel did with similar storylines on different soaps ... and probably a number of other examples that I can't think of right now) so I have zero sympathy or respect for her now.

I agree Kazz...This Sami is already in the process of pushing everyone away that loves her & Johnny & is more than ready to fall for EJ's lies and manipulations once again. No one in the world can be that stupid, can they?
I say that anyone that has loved Sami needs to run away, say c'est la vie...Including any respect at all I had for her...it's all gone!

I just don't understand why they had to pick Sami/EJ. I mean, really? Couldn't she have found comfort with Austin? That is a MUCH better set up with the couples, and where I thought it was going. Instead, they basically jumped right into the fire.

I think it would have had a better impact and ripple had it been Austin.

^^ I agree. I don't think it would have been a good idea to have Sami cheat with anyone when her son was just announced dead... or even sleep with her husband at that moment in time ... but moving Sami and Austin into an affair of the heart under different circumstances (like they were headed in) would have made a lot more sense and been the true symmetry to what happened between Jarlena and Sami. Will loves Austin and at one point thought Austin was his father, just like Sami once thought that John (as Roman) was her father. The hurt for Sami wasn't that her mother turned out to be a flawed person who cheats ... it was because of the loss of the family she never had. Sami lost the only parent she knew when Roman & Marlena returned and took her from John (and then almost immediately shipped her off to Colorado for the next 7 years of her life.) Sami had just returned to Salem and was finally about to have a real family life with her biological parents when the man she had loved and trusted as a father took it away from her again. Sami's resentment of John might be misplaced to a degree (as I personally think Roman & Marlena are more at fault and Stefano most of all) but in a way it makes sense because John is the one she would have known longest and trusted most in her formative years. He has been more accepting and supportive of her over the years than either of her biological parents IMO and whereas she puts Roman & Marlena on a pedestal, John is the one she feels safe to attack and knows won't turn on her. Austin has played a similar role to John in Will's life. Sami has been the one in Will's life who has done the most to keep him from having a normal childhood and in the very early years of his life (and again when Sami went off the deep end and divorced Lucas), Austin was the stable parent figure he could count on. Now Will sees that his younger siblings are having the sort of home life he wanted for himself, so for Sami to blow that apart with his uncle, a man he has loved and trusted as a father figure - that is the scenario that would be closest to symmetry to what Sami experienced with Jarlena's affair. The only way to have gotten closer would have been to have it be Lucas instead of Austin.... but EJ isn't even on the ball field. There is no comparison between EJ/Sami and Jarlena - none... Will hates the guy for very good reasons so giving him another one creates nothing new to explain why Will would suddenly turn darker this time as opposed to everything else he's done. The conflict would have been much more real for Will if it had been a betrayal by the uncle he loves and trusts.

Sorry ladies but I disagree.I really don't think that a Sami/Austin affair would have had too much impact. It's too "been there done that".Besides,Austin doesn't bring too much out of Sami. He's too boring for that.
