from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8604695/1/Daytime Royalty Interview with Lauren Koslow Please link to DR only.
Today, Daytime Royalty had the chance to speak with Lauren Koslow (Kate) about the future of her character, Kate's return to work and the possibilities of Lisa Rinna and Bryan Dattilo returning to Salem!DR: It seems like we haven’t seen much of Kate and Stefano lately. Do you know where the new writers are planning to go with this relationship?Koslow: I don't know...I don't have that information. I know that I love working with Joe [Mascolo, Stefano]. I love that relationship. It's so funny, you know, considering how it started...but it turned into such an interesting relationship, a complicated relationship, I think a very believable one...So I'm hoping that it will continue. I know the audience has enjoyed it, and I love hearing that. That's what I was telling Joe because he's not on the social media circuit at all, so I always relay it to him, and he's happy about it...so we'll see. I do miss the scenes, though. DR: Kate's grandson Will has a big story coming up. Will Kate be involved in that at all?Koslow: I don't know if I will be or not. I would like to be. I would think she would be...I would think Kate would be very supportive of it, so we'll see. I think it's such an important story to be told, but I would love being a part of it! DR: We've recently heard that Lisa Rinna is returning to the show, which means that Kate will have two of her children in Salem again. Should we expect to see her doing any meddling like she has in the past?Koslow: Well, I don't like to think of it as meddling. I like to think of it as fixing things (laughs). I don't know, and nothing's been conferred to me. I don't know if she's coming back or not. I mean, I would love it. Kate would love to have all of her children back in Salem! Family is everything to her, and it would be great story if she was back in town. I like it now that she [Kate] has evolved to a place that, I think, controlling her children's lives isn't the thing that she wants to be doing anymore. I think she's moved on, and she has a life of her own that is very vital. But [seeing Kate with her children] as a group of adults and a family unit, I think would be very interesting. [about Rinna's rumored return] I don't think it's been completely confirmed. I'm not sure about that. I don't have knowledge of that. DR: We've seen you re-tweet many tweets about bringing back Bryan Dattilo on Twitter. Do you have any words of hope for his fans out there?Koslow: I really hope he is [coming back]. I love Bryan. He's a wonderful actor, and I think the last time he left, he was doing some of the best work he had done on the show. Kate and Lucas have such a complex, crazy, wonderful relationship, that I would love to see him back. I think it would be really good for the show. I have my fingers crossed. I think it's a good sign that [Kate's] family is returning, and he's very beloved, so I hope he'll be back. DR: What has it been like working with Patrick Muldoon as Austin because before, you had only worked with Austin Peck as that character?Koslow: We still keep in contact, me and Austin Peck, but it was great to meet Patrick Muldoon for the first time. He's a great guy, and he's a really good actor. It was different for him too and different for me because we had both worked with different actors, so it was a discovery process in the beginning, but what has evolved is that we have both learned new things about Kate and Austin's relationship, and it's a little different. It's almost a little lighter. [Peck's Austin's] relationship with Kate was different. It's kind of fascinating for an actor to have that chance to play with different people because it does bring out different things. It's really funny, and we haven't had a lot of scenes together yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to working with him more because he kind of works the same way I do. He's very much in the moment, and that's a very fun way to work, and ironically, it's kind of the same way that Austin Peck was. I'm really enjoying it. DR: So far, it seems as though the reasons for Kate and Madison's rivalry have been vague. Considering the vitriol between them, are we going to see the history between them explored more or have you come up with a back story yourself to explain why they dislike each other so much?Koslow: (laughs) I know. It is an interesting question, and I have to be honest with you, I don't have a lot of information on it. That can be difficult. That is hard, as an actor, but you are asked to do that a lot. It happens all the time that you're given something and you do come up with back story; I mean, that's what I do. I just have to come up with stuff, whether it's right or not, it doesn't matter. You have to have something there. I hope and I believe that we are going to find out. There's going to have to come a point where we find out. And I totally trust these writers that they're going to give us something that will fully explain why this feeling is there. Vitriol is a great word because it's true; it was overwhelming. It's slowly unfolding. I haven't really found out yet. I don't know. But that can be a good thing. When a story slowly unfolds, hopefully the deeper it will go, and it will have a big payoff. That's what we're all hoping for. (laughs) I know I don't have a lot of information! But it's definitely something where you [as an actor] always struggle with that, and it's in the nature of our genre that a lot of information can't be given up because they're concerned about leaks and things getting out, so if you want that element of surprise, a lot of times, you have to go on very little information, so we are kind of used to doing that. But I might be surprised along with you! DR: A while back, you tweeted something about Kate being back in the office. Are we going to see an actual set for Kate's Countess Wilhelmina office?Koslow: I think....I remember Kate has had some great offices. I'm hoping that I will get behind the desk kind of office because I love those. I think a lot of dramatic things can go on in an office. Kate has had quite a few rendezvouses in her offices (laughs). I haven't seen that office yet, but I'm hoping for it. It's on my wish list. DR: I think a lot of fans are wanting to see Kate back in that setting again.Koslow: Yes, I think so, too. And considering the audience who watches, there are a lot of working people out there, and they come home, and we have this fun show to watch, but I think we want that working place setting. I give kudos to them for getting back into that, and I think that was missing on the show, and when it gets fully realized, I think the audience will be really happy about it. DR: To what do you attribute Kate's longevity as a character?Koslow: I think it's because she is a character who can actually go anywhere or do anything. She is obviously capable of great evil, but she is also believably capable of doing something really good. I think she has a huge emotional range, so in that way, Kate has been used in many different ways. It's so funny because Alison Sweeney and I discussed this too about her character, but they [Kate and Sami] were always just strong women, and they were never really seen as [part of] a couple. They were on their own, for good or for bad, and ultimately, I think that really helped in terms of longevity.

Thanks for posting Karebr. I found it interesting that she said she doesn't think Kate wants to control her kids lives anymore. Since when...
