SOD: Bo and Hope Relive Zack’s DeathThe search for a missing Johnny takes a personal toll on Bo and Hope. Not only is Johnny a beloved family member, it also conjures up painful memories of their son Zack’s death. “It pulls them back into that moment,” previews Co-Head Writer Marlene McPherson.
Peter Reckell (B0) adds, “When Bo and Hope discover that Johnny is is missing, they try to keep their emotions in check. They’re trying to approach the investigation as a police officers first.”
Bo and Roman apprehend the shooter, but he claims to know nothing about Johnny’s whereabouts. Bo and Hope try to figure out how Johnny could simply vanish. In a dramatic turning point, Roman finds a piece of a bloody shirt, sending everyone into a panic that Johnny is dead. “Bo tries to keep everyone in control,” offers Reckell. “He tells them, ‘We don’t know that it is Johnny!’ But people are running with the story that Johnny [is dead].”
Bo and Hope arrive at the crime scene with Rafe, where the body of a young boy is lying on the ground, and brace themselves for the worst. “It really comes to the forefront when Bo and Hope are standing there waiting for Rafe to identify the body,” Reckell shares.
When Rafe Reveals that the boy isn’t Johnny, Bo and Hope experience a whirlwind of emotions. “It’s a double edged sword,” explains Reckell. “Their first reaction is to really feel bad for the parents of this boy, and then there is the relief that it isn’t Johnny.”
The search for Johnny continues. Meanwhile, Bo and Hope realize that they will have to deal with their unresolved feelings regarding Zack. “It sets them off in an area where they decide, ‘We finally have to deal with this loss once and for all or we are going to separate again,’” McPherson points out.
Co-Head Writer Darrell Ray Thomas Jr. adds, “They’ve buried those feelings and put on a happy face, but there is some very real conflict and anger underneath the facade they’ve been putting on. There will be things that they have to go through in their relationship and really get to the bottom of what they’re feeling so they can get past it. Otherwise, their relationship is going to be in trouble.”

SOW: Bo and Hope Relive Zack's DeathJohnny’s disappearance opens old wounds for Bo and Hope. “When Bo and Hope discover that Johnny is missing, they try to keep their emotions in check,” asserts Peter Reckell. “Obviously, it brings up memories of Zack and what happened to them.”
Co-Head Writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr. preview that the search for Johnny will serve as a catalyst to put Bo and Hope on a new path in their marriage, McPherson discloses. “This pulls Bo and Hope back into that moment when Zack died and they start to realize, ‘We didn’t fully deal with this.'" Thomas adds “They kind of buried their feelings and put on a happy face, but there is some real pain and anguish underneath the facade.”
The stakes heighten when the body of a young boy is found and everyone fears it might be Johnny. Bo and Hope accompany Rafe to the crime scene. “Things really come to the forefront when they’re standing there waiting for Rafe to identify the body," says Reckell. Rafe examines the body and announces that it isn’t Johnny. “Bo and Hope’s first reaction is to feel bad for the parents of the boy, and then there is the huge relief that it isn’t somebody they know.”
The experience makes a huge impression on Bo and Hope. “They decide that they finally have to deal with their loss over Zack once and for all,” points out McPherson. “Because if they don’t, they start to separate again.”
