I think I figured this out... Xander is working with Kristen. She knew all about Brady, Nicole & Eric because Xander told her. He stole the taped confession of Nicole. Then he went to Nicole and threatened blackmail with her and she wound up having to marry him in order to shut him up.
Of course, this is all just speculation, but it makes sense.

It does make sense since he has the taped confession and could use it for blackmail. Xander is a good villain, he makes the show more interesting imo.
