I'm not sure if he has ever received any nominations but he has had a few prenominations. I really think that he should have received a nomination in 2009 for his scenes when he confronted Kate after he found out from Lucas that she was going to marry Stefano or for his scenes he did with Stephanie where they broke up after he found out that she was taking the pills for her anxiety. Lauren and him were both amazing in those scenes but unfortunately he didn't even get a prenom at all in 2009. Also if he would have submitted his scenes when he confronted Vivian after Melanie was shot in 2010 he probably would have had a greater chance of receiving a nomination but instead he submitted the scenes where he was at the hospital waiting to find out if Melanie was going to die or not.

I always found it odd how he did not get a pre-nom for 2009, but did for 2010 when in my opinion he had much stronger work in 2009. I completely agree with you about the two choices you picked for 2009 he and Lauren did amazing work in those scenes. I also loved the Philip and Stephanie break-up scene, even though I hated that they were breaking up. But Jay and Shelley both absolutely brought it they were both so emotional in that scene it looked so real not cheesey like a lot of soap break up scenes. You could tell that both of there hearts were absolutely breaking. I don't think Jay has every played any of his other break up scenes with that much emotion. |

There were some scenes in 2001 and 2002 with Nadia that he put a lot of emotion in also. Philip's goodbye scene with Chloe in 2002 had a lot of emotion brought to it by both Jay and Nadia. Of course it probably was easy for them to get emotional in those scenes since they would be the last scenes that they would be taping together until Nadia's return in 2007. There was also a lot of emotion by Jay in the scene where Chloe broke up with Philip after she found out that he set up Brady to go to jail. I will agree with you however that the Phinie breakup was probably one of his most emotional scenes ever. I still wish that Jay would have gotten the chance to play out the whole PTSD storyline in 2007 that was promised to him if he would return to the show. He would have been really great in that storyline and definitely could have easily have won an emmy for it but instead the writers had to drop the storyline so that he could interfere in Shelle's happiness. The storyline was all set up for him and they dropped it just as it was starting to get interesting just so that he could have an affair with Belle. This is one of the things I have always hated the most about Days writers is that they don't seem to want to take a chance and do social relevant storylines justice and they get dropped halfway through the storyline before we get to see any kind of fallout.

I completely agree with you, Days completely wasted Jay's talent and took him for granted. That is why a part of me was glad that he decided to finally leave, and part of me doesn't want him ever to return just because I don't think Days will ever give him a storyline that is worthy of his talent and if they do they will probably drop it once it starts getting interesting like the PTSD storyline, the Dock Wars Storyline, and The Demira/Kiriakis war Storyline.

I don't remember specifics but I think she was supposed to be involved with Shawn and then they completely changed gears when Belle and Shawn were written out of the show.

Nadia was promised a post partum depression storyline which DH started but then as soon as Chloe tried to commit suicide there was no kind of real fallout for both Chloe and Philip. It would have been better if the show would have given Jay more airtime in the couple of months before he left so that we could have gotten more scenes with Phloe dealing with the fallout from her post partum depression and the attempted suicide and Kate's trying to make Chloe lose custody of Parker to Philip and Melanie. i hated the way that Philip's exit was written. I hated that he left town being all friendly toward Kate especially considering that she was the one who caused Chloe to not take her medication and almost commit suicide. I also hated the animosity that there was between Phloe when Philip left considering how he has always been a good friend to Chloe and would never abandon her in her time of need. I really wished that DH would have just had Philip be presumed dead as part of the renewed Kiriakis/Dimera war. The writers could have had it where Stefano believed that Philip was behind EJ's beating and have the Titan jet be sabotaged where it crashed when Philip was going out of town for a business trip. They could have made it look like Philip could have died in the plane crash and then after Philip was presumed dead, Chloe could have had a storyline where her, Victor and Kate would be battling it out over who would get custody of Parker now that Philip was dead and Chloe had no parental rights to him because of her suicide attempt. IMO this would have been so much better than the prostitution storyline that Nadia was given. A Philip presumed dead storyline would have given John Aniston, Lauren Koslow, and Nadia Bjorlin some really good material to work with.

It still makes me mad that the fallout from Parker's paternity reveal was all about Melanie and Daniel. It should have been about Philip finding out he was Parker's dad as well as them dealing with finding out they had a child together. Instead the focus was on trying to get their spouses to forgive them. Once the suicide attempt happened, that was about it for the PPD storyline.

The problem is that Philip is not E.J., Rafe, or Daniel who seem to be the only male characters that Dena Higley liked to write for, heck even these new writing team seems to be invested in the same characters that Higley was invested in with the exception of maybe Will.

As much as I loved watching Jay play Philip on Days the role of Lucky on GH would have been a great role for him also. He probably would have won a daytime emmy if he played the part of Lucky since GH has always made a point of giving Lucky some really great storylines that allowed Jonathon Jackson the chance to win a few daytime emmys. Thanks for posting the Y&R clip, Karebr. It was fun to see. I'm glad he chose Philip/Days and not Y&R or GH. I haven't watched Y&R or GH in years, and I would have missed the opportunity to get to know Jay and Philip. That would have been my loss. |
