I don't know if this is the right section for this type of post, so, moderators, please feel free to move it if needed. I was just curious about whether or not I'm the only one who's been bored with the show lately. Most of the storylines have been ridiculous, unbelievable, or unnecessary lately (Leo's death, custody battle over Tate, Hope continually interfering with Ben and Ciara, etc.) and important things keep getting either dragged out, put on the back burner, or rushed for the sake of wrapping them up quickly. When exactly is Marlena and John's wedding supposed to happen? I feel like it is not a priority since it is only mentioned every so often. And why did we not see the full funeral for Lani and Eli's baby? Also, Steve's storyline about regaining his sight could have been so much better. Now it's just been relegated to the standard soap staple of Kayla keeping a secret from him. It creates drama, sure, but this was a story that could have really given the audience a positive vibe that hasn't been felt on this show in a while. I guess I'm frustrated too. There is potential in many of the storylines, but the writers keep boring them up with predictable paths and a lack of action. The heart of the show has been missing lately.

Great question booksoapwriter81. I'm not bored, exactly, but I'm irritated. Today (8-6) I noticed an overabundance of the same stories with different people. Nicole, Theresa, and Chloe all recently were forced to tell their partner that they were leaving town because they didn't love them anymore when really someone else was threatening them/forcing them to leave. Will is telling Paul he is over Sonny but it doesn't appear it will stay that way, Eric is telling Jennifer he is over Nicole but everyone in town is trying to convince him otherwise, and Chloe is worried that Lucas is not all that into her while he's talking to his ex, who he claims to be over now that he's with Chloe. Jennifer is keeping a secret from Eric, Eve is keeping a secret from Brady, and Kayla is keeping a secret from Steve, all of which are likely to blow up in their faces and ruin their relationships. I realize these are typical soap stories, but when every story is exactly the same it's not all that interesting.

I watch another soap just before I watch Days. The other show I enjoy a bunch, it gets me laughing, being surprised even cheering. Then Days comes on & it is dark, sad, nothing happy. I can see such a difference. It needs some happiness, lightheartedness and not just sad, sad & more sad.

Great question booksoapwriter81. I realize these are typical soap stories, but when every story is exactly the same it's not all that interesting. This right here, is what I'm bored with - "typical soap stories." I've been watching soaps - mainly Days - for decades and I would like some surprises for once. But that's rare on this show. Even without spoilers, most of us can see an unplanned pregnancy, a paternity question or switch, a character return, a mile away because this show follows such a formula and drops such glaring hints. WHY? How about characters doing some unpredictable things once in a while? Something else that I'm very unhappy with lately is what I see as outright misogyny and tone-deafness on this show. I feel like the story about Abby, Stefan and Chad is hinting that women who were raped, on some level, really wanted it. How many times do we have to hear Abby say, Gabby is a part of her, so part of her must have wanted to have sex with Stefan? Then we've got hysterical Hope unable to control her emotions as police captain. Again, I see that as a stereotype about women not being able to handle a job like that without their emotions getting in the way. Just my opinion and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I find myself questioning the new writers feelings about women.

Just my opinion and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I find myself questioning the new writers feelings about women. You're not the only one. I have a huge problem with the way women are written on this show. Rape in general is treated as a plot point. There's never any consequences for the rapist and half the time the person claims the rapist is the "love of their life" and the rape is forgotten. The other day Marlena said something about Kristen causing problems between Brady and Eric that implied that Eric also deliberately cheated when we all know Kristen raped him, which seemed not much different from how everyone is blaming Abby for her rape. Ciara's rape was not about how rape affects a young woman. It was a plot point to get her to be with Ben instead of Tripp. And don't get me started on Abby's rape. I've been ranting about this in my weekly columns and on Twitter for weeks. Not only is it implied she wanted it, but there's a lot of misinformation about mental illness floating around, plus Chad is written as the aggrieved party as if he wasn't the first to realize that Abby was raped. Once in a while they have a character say it was rape, but usually that character is ignored by everybody. And we're clearly supposed to feel sorry for evil Gabi and think she's right that Abigail is "making excuses" and that there was no rape. Plus Gabi and Stefan talking Abby out of terminating her pregnancy was all about shaming her for even considering it. I know people have strong opinions about abortion and I'm not trying to get into that debate, but something just felt awful about that to me. Then there's the other women on the show, all of whom can't live without a man. As I mentioned above, we had three women be blackmailed or otherwise forced to break up with their boyfriend and leave town -- and even strong characters like Nicole give in to blackmail with a snap of the fingers. Jennifer -- who was once a career woman with the strength to deal with insecure, not quite stable Jack's constant fear she was going to leave him -- is so insecure and unable to live without a man that she's keeping a secret from Eric that is out of character for her to keep. Eve and Theresa both did horrible things in the name of holding onto Brady, whose most obvious quality is how easily he responds to sex. Pretty much everyone in town is worried about their man returning to his ex. As for Hope... I think this whole relationship with Rafe ruined her and there's been a misogynistic undertone to it the whole time. Rafe is constantly belittling her, telling her how to do her job, making excuses for her excessive emotionality -- and she keeps needing him to stop her from acting out violently towards Ben. Sorry for the rant, but the long and the short of it is that this show is going backwards in how it depicts women and why the writers and producers think that an audience that is made up mostly of women want to see that is beyond me.

Pretty much all of this is why I haven’t actually been able to watch it lately I comment on the recaps but haven’t bothered to watch because of this exactly I think the writers think very little of women and I don’t agree with the msg they send out about rape or mental illness for that matter And yes repeat stories are tiresome and this show has gotten awfully predictable

There is too much of the same going on, and it is boring. There haven't been any unexpected surprises or twists and turns in a while. I find that I like the show best on days when it surprises me and doesn't follow a predictable path. Or when Victor is on interacting with someone he hates or spitting off his famous one-liners. That adds comedy to the show and will save episodes for me.

I stopped watching daily after I returned from my trip in June and needed to catch up by binge watching. After the third episode I just deleted the rest, three weeks worth. Now I only watch the episode that I'm doing the recap for. The rest of the time I skim the recaps so I'm not completely lost for doing the recap.
My biggest problem is that none of the characters are recognizable. Most of them are completely unlikable. It feels like one of those so-called reality shows. I'm bored with the lack of sets too. It used to not bother me because the stories and characters were interesting. I'm completely disgusted with the Abigail-Chad story. It has dominated the show for way too long. It makes me angry that all the other characters are second-string. Maybe I just feel this way because Marci's Abigail is so drab and boring and I can't figure out what the heck happened with Billy that made him change Chad so drastically.

I would probably stop watching if it weren't for the fact I have been watching Days since almost the beginning. It takes me back to being with my Mom and watching it together. But, I am in love with my FF button. I tend to really shorten the length by deleting yet another blah, blah scene.

P.S. to my previous post How bad is it? So bad that I removed the show from my DVR list.
