I started replying to this in the Thursday highs/lows thread, but I was afraid it was going to go off on a tangent, so I decided to create a new thread.
Low - What happened to Billy Flynn? When he started on the show I loved him. He made Chad sharp and confident and caring. Now all he does is blubber and stutter, and he's completely self-centered. Abigail is (as far as they think) the one stuck having Stefan's baby but all Chad can think about is himself.
I've noticed the stutter-acting for a long time and it's overdone and distracting. I don't think he's a good actor and the character is very average. Not good, not bad, just blah.

If I remember correctly he had a job in the business world before he was hired as Chad.
I haven't cared for Chad's storylines ever since Stefan came to Salem. I don't feel any romantic chemistry between Billy Flynn and Marci Miller.

I agree with UhSir... I used to really like him, thought he was a really good actor, but now I can't stand his speech, his stuttering & mumbling. It's like he just doesn't care anymore. It seemed to start back when they were stranded on the island if I remember correctly. |

I feel like all that stuttering is a crutch or cheat. It makes it seem like he’s being emotional when he’s really just stammering around, kind of like when people fake cry by talking thru their nose. It’s okay in small doses but he seems to rely on it now.
I just think the character is stalled, like many on the show. It’s tiresome watching him go around in circles with Stefan. They are no EJ and Philip, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, Marci gives off "best sibling ever" vibes with everyone. I wonder if Billy might have taken some acting lessons and he latched on to some new technique? I would think the directors have some say over this too, so it's probably not all Billy's fault. I feel like all that stuttering is a crutch or cheat. Maybe you're right about being stalled. It feels to me like Billy isn't enjoying his job anymore.

The Chad character has fallen apart. It's all about Chad - his way or he will make your life miserable. No wonder Gabi can play him so easily.

I'm guessing the actor thinks he sounds realistic if he stutters because people stumble over words in real life. The actress who played Melanie would do it too, all the time. I agree that once in a while it would be okay to do it, maybe to convey uncertainty, but Billy Flynn does it all the time and it's so distracting to watch.
If the actor is bored with his job, I say that's too darn bad. He's a professional and he gets paid good money. I'd say we all get bored with our jobs from time to time but we're still expected to give 100%. I just don't think he's a good actor.

If he was bored with his job, then he shouldn't have just re-signed his contract. An occasional stutter from time to time is natural, but almost all the time?? His speech is also basically monotone.

Everyone in the show stutters like that. I have long thought the director needs to be replaced.
IMO Billy Flynn is one of the best actors on the show, along with Casey Moss and Christopher Sean.
I hated Chad and Abby as a couple til Marci Miller came on. Kate Mansi never had any chemistry with him IMO. Now the writers are ruining the couple and soon they will be unrootable as well as no longer have any chemistry.

I don't mind Billy Flynn and I like Marci Miller. I guess they felt they did what they could for their roles. I think the writing on the show is all over the place right now. It's going to be weird with all these actors leaving soon, some who have been with the show on and off for decades.. I think they need fresh ideas, maybe some new writers.

I didn’t love billy when he first started but he grew on me and I like him a lot now
I think I started rooting for Abby and chad when Marci took over cuz Kate made me hate Abby to the point that I wanted her to just be alone
I was one of few who thought Sami having her fired for sleeping with a board member was good and I enjoyed her reign of terror on Abby cuz Kate made me hate her in a get her off my screen way not a love to hate way
I still like the first chad we had too but billy has been a good grown up chad up until recently, I’d say it’s bad writing though more than anything
He probably hates it too and it’s why the stuttering is happening
