It seems like he had an interesting storyline but it's true they tend skim over stories they should give more time to. So I can understand his frustration.

I heard today that Stephen Nichols was willing to stay even a with 30 percent pay cut. I guess they wanted to pay him even less than that, they are trying to cut costs. But he is irreplaceable and a very important part of the show. If they are worried about ratings I think the ratings will suffer even more if they don't care about keeping the important iconic characters.
