Days of Our Lives spoilers say that beloved soap veteran Stephen Nichols may not be re-upping his contract with DOOL. The contract negotiations between the show and Stephen Nichols are not going well. According to an article posted by Soap Opera News, Nichols was offered a contract that has him filming just one day a week, but he turned it down because he wants more airtime.

Longtime fans adore Steve “Patch” Johnson as a longstanding character. Steve and Kayla have been termed one of the supercouples in soap history. His character is pivotal to many of the plot lines on the Days canvas right now including the storyline with Abby DiMera(Marci Miller ), Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and his awful brother Stefan (Tyler Christopher). Plus, there’s the possible arc with Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow). Then there’s Kayla trying to get Steve that bionic eye.

Days spoilers promise that Steve will also need to be there for his son. Tripp is about to go through a brief hard time with his relationship with Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefel). DOOL fans are still watching this relationship develop and we are enjoying the interaction between father and son. Steve is going to need to be there for both of his sons. Steve’s son Joey may get out of jail soon and he will need to be there for him as well. Steve Johnson is a vital part of John Black’s (Drake Hogestyn) detective agency.

Spoilers say the Johnson family continues to be one of the core families.Losing Stephen Nichols could be detrimental to the whole dynamic. Here is hoping that DOOL producers and Stephen Nichols can reach a deal that works for all because his character is far too valuable to lose.

It's sad. Hopefully he'll decide to return before too long. I wonder if the issue was money or number of guaranteed episodes.

This is awful. Steve's going. Paul's going. The best male actors. I wonder what Kayla will do. I hope they weren't chem testing her with Stefan. That would be creepy.

I think this is a big mistake on his part. He has a fairly prominent story. I agree he's not on often enough but he's not a leading man anymore regardless of how he thinks of himself. I'm disappointed on many levels.

Personally, I don't blame him for leaving. For months fans have been asking why Steve and Kayla's story has only been on once every few weeks and why beats are missing, while stories nobody wants to see get prominence. I think it was a mistake on the writers' part to assume people would rather see chemistry-less couples and violence than a realistic story about people in love dealing with a major health issue.

I would think a steady paycheck would take precedence over a storyline unless he has other work lined up.

I hope he ends up returning to the show in some capacity even if it's recurring like Wally Kurth and Judi Evans.
