THE TERRACE
Philip watches the sunrise from his chair on the terrace. He never moved from that chair all night and he barely slept. A million thoughts went through his mind. Some of the things Chloe told him just didn’t add up. But if there was any more to the story, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
He couldn’t believe this was really happening, that Chloe, the girl who was always so closed off and emotionally unavailable as a teenager, had ended up this way. Why?
He knew why, and he laid the blame squarely at his own feet. He didn’t communicate with Chloe over the last six months, except through Justin. He kept waiting for her to call him, like he was standing on ceremony. It was up to her to reach out to him, he decided. He wanted her to come to him and prove that she was strong and capable of being a good mother to Parker.
If he had been more accessible, more communicative, more generous with his own time and with Parker, this would never have happened. How desperate and hopeless Chloe must have felt to do what she did. She didn’t think she had a choice and it breaks his heart that she didn’t think she could count on him. He was supposed to be her best friend. But best friends don’t abandon each other when they hit bottom. He should have been there for her. He didn’t think Hallmark made a card for this occasion. “Sorry you became a hooker. Hope we can still be friends.” Philip wanted to scream.
Just then, Philip felt his heart contract as he realized that the man who accosted Chloe in the Thai restaurant must have really been one of her johns. The realization made Philip nauseous.
The sound of Parker crying broke Philip’s thoughts and he was grateful for that. He went inside to take care of his son.

I'm happy Philip realizes he should have made himself more accessible to Chloe.I should have known he wouldn't blame her in the least for what she'd done.Very emotional,heartbreaking,yet honestly refreshing chapter.Thank you for this jkjpatch.Can't wait for the weekend chapters!  |

Great chapter Kpatch. Just adore that Philip is taking some of the blame for what happened. Loved the Hallmark line. Thanks for this story.

This was a great chapter! I am really happy that Philip is thinking about how this is somewhat his fault. Love that he isn't getting angry with her.

Great chapter Kpatch. I like it that Philip realizes he has some part is this mess. I can't wait to see how the next conversation between Philip and Chloe goes. I hope that it helps Chloe to start healing now that she's told Philip the truth.

CHLOE'S BEDROOM
Chloe was lying in bed unable to sleep. She stared at the ceiling wishing she could wipe the last year from her memory. Make that the last two years. If ever she needed a do-over, it was now.
She sacrificed everything to have Parker in her life. And now a careless and angry confession had undone it all. She was going to lose Parker forever.
Her self-respect was gone, Philip’s respect for her was gone. She would never have her son’s respect. And now her ability to get shared custody of her son was gone.
Where would she go? What would she do? Should she go back to hooking? Ugh. No, she couldn’t stand the thought of another stranger touching her and her having to not only allow it, but act like she enjoyed it. After each encounter with a john, Chloe would jump in the shower with a scrub brush. But no amount of showers or scrubbing could wash away what she had become. It was only her belief that it was a means to an end that kept her going.
The sound of Parker crying in the other room broke her thoughts, and she was grateful for that. She got up and was about to turn the doorknob when she realized that Philip would probably not let her anywhere near her son ever again. She sat on the edge of her bed and sobbed.
After a while she took a deep breath, walked over to the closet, took out her suitcase and began to pack her things.
Outside Chloe’s bedroom door, Philip was holding Parker and was about to knock, when the doorbell rang. He went to the door and a woman he had never seen before was standing there.
Philip: Can I help you?
Woman: I’m Tonya Boyd from the Department of Child and Family Services. I’m here to see how things are going. May I come in?

I am sure Philip didn't call & this is just a surprise visit. I hope it all goes ok. No way Philip is going to let anything bad happen.. At least I hope so.

Ohhh great timeing CFS can just leave. Parker is not in any danger. Loved the chapter. I can understand the way that Philip has treated Chloe in the past that she would be getting ready to leave. I sure hope he stops her and that CFS does not find out that she was about to leave. Come on Philip be our hero. Tbanks for the chapter Kpatch.
