I think that there's so much story left for Phil, and I'd hate to see him go. I'd hate hate hate to see him go.
I'm still holding out hope that DOOL makes the actor a freakin' offer he can't refuse so that he comes back.
However, his recast does have some big shoes to fill, and I hope it'd be with someone just as amazing and not another dud like the last Phil.

Ugh I'm torn. I adore JKJ as Phillip and don't think I could accept another actor. I couldn't accept Kyle Brandt in the roll. But, my main concern is what about Parker? I just can't see Phillip leaving his baby and I can't see him taking the baby away from Chloe.

Well, this is my take on recasts...do it once and only once. And do it as early in the character's life as possible. Martha is Belle to me because of her connection to Sami and Philip and because she was in the role for long enough that I bonded with her character. Same with John as Victor. And Kate and Roman? Well, they've been in those roles for so long that I have accepted them completely and never even think of them being portrayed by the "other" person. If Jay had not returned ot take the role, Kyle would have become Philip by now. Of course he'd also have been a wuss. ;D
As far as the future of the character of Philip goes...
Lucas is missed in Salem. He has kids and his mom even if no Sami. Would any of you accept anyone but Bryan as Lucas? Didn't think so. And it will be that way with Philip. I think the wheels are in motion to make Parker Daniel's baby and I saw the misacarriage as an opportunity to mend fences with Chloe and Melanie for that purpose as well as to take care of the Philip/Melanie/baby connection. No mention of Claire ever. Or Belle Or Shawn D or anyone remotely connected to Philip except Kate and Victor. Brady is taking over Titan, instead of Philip and he hasn't even remotely been involved with Titan on our screens for a couple months, so his presence will not be miseed there. So what else is there to keep them from writing Philip out of the storylines altogether until and unless Jay actually comes back. or years from now, like Nicholas, he'll show up to test the waters again. It's sad. But for this reason I have to vote no to a recast, not for at least a good 5-10 years. Minimum.

I do agree a lot with what you have said ATD. However, I do have to say I don't think they are going to make Parker Daniel's I have thought about this a lot and I think they are more moving to have Chloe completely removed from Daniel's orbit...(too bad they didn't do that with Sami and EJ that fast...lol)
I keep going back and forth about a Philip recast. I just can't make my mind up.

Whoa!! Hold up! Victor wasn't always played by John A.  ?? How did I miss that??? I can NOT imagine anyone else playing Vic. And I totally agree with everything you said. Recasts CAN be good, when they're done right. Bad ones just make the character and the viewer suffer. Just put us all out of our misery and end it already. Goodbye Jay! We loved you so!!!  |

As far as I know, Victor has always been John. Gotcha! ;D but can you imagine them trying to recast him. Ever?
