Or the Google or Apple versions?
If you have it, do you like it? Does it really work the way they show?
Just curious.

My mom and sister have them - one has the Google version and the other has Amazon. I think they're pretty cool. You can tell it to play music or set a timer or just ask weird questions, check the weather or sports. Not sure what you are thinking about doing with it. I think you can actually do a lot with them depending on how much technology you have in your home. I don't know that they use them a lot though.
The only thing I wonder about sometimes - and I'm not a super paranoid person normally - is whether you can be listened in on or recorded.

CNBC was doing a test of these and they started asking it to do stuff. Next thing you know, they were flooded with complaints as everyone's Alexa etc. starting doing & answering the stuff from the TV.

I'm not in the market, but I do find these devices intriguing and amusing. I don't know if it records your conversations, but I'm sure it collects a ton of data on you. Whether it sends it to the mother ship, my guess would be yes. Big Brother is watching AND listening, and you even buy it, of your own free will!

I don't have Echo but my husband has had a couple of Fire tablets and he bought me one a few months ago. Alexa seems to come on at random times when I haven't been remotely saying her name. And then if I do ask her something she doesn't know lol. I'm thinking about disabling Alexa because it does seem like an instrusion of privacy plus it's pretty useless.

Alexa has never come on when I've used my Kindle fire. Maybe it's more of the newer models.

I don't have any of those and never will. I don't want my personal discussions recorded and uploaded to the cloud. Reports I've read that explain how they work explain that the device has to do that in order to determine if you are asking it something or not.

My sister has an Echo. It can play music and answer questions. The kids like to use it to set timers (they have to read 20 minutes a day for school) and can use it to call my sister if she's not home. They have one in the kids' rooms too that plays soft musuc at night and can be used as an intercom.

I have a friend that had one until she walked into a room & it said hello to her. That was the end of the Echo.
