I decided to write a Remi fic for my good friend Ariet. This is an idea of how I'd reunite the couple. It will mainly involve Rex and Mimi. Philip will make appearances throughout the story
Mimi rolls over in her bed and hits her alarm the dreaded day had finally come; the day that most girls feared, meeting the parents. The usual questions popped up in her head. What if they don’t like me? What if they constantly compare me to his exes? What if they are just plain crazy?
The questions have been eating at her most of the night. She couldn’t sleep because of it. She has heard that Brian’s family was a family that has lived extravagantly. They were considered old money. So Bonnie nearly salivated when Mimi told her about her dating Brian Wellington. Mimi has used almost every excuse in the book to prolong Bonnie meeting Brian. If it were up to her the first meeting would be about the wedding plans even though her and Brian have only been dating for a few months. Surprisingly the meeting went great. She was actually pretty normal throughout the whole thing. Well as normal as her mother could act.
She hears her phone ring and she hopes it isn’t Brian calling telling her he’d be there soon. He warned her three times last night he would be there at 9am sharp since there plan left at 11.
She set her alarm for 7am so she could get ready. She had to look perfect. She has never let Brian see her without make up or her hair not styled. So when he picked her up today before they headed to the airport she was going to try to look contemporary and posh like Jackie O. She wanted to impress them and not be the girl she was in high school.
She picks up her cell and sees that it is her friend Stephanie Johnson. “Is it too late to back out now?” She asked.
“Definitely.” Stephanie laughs into the phone. “You will do fine Meems.” Stephanie said while closing the door to her office. She could see her friend needed a peep talk before her boyfriend came by. “They are going to love you. How couldn’t they love you?” Stephanie asked while sitting back in her chair.
Mimi wishes she had half the confidence her friend had. Mimi remembers the day that she saw Stephanie again. Mimi was working as the administrative assistant at this local Chicago Agency for the fashion Magazine Contessa. She walked in with so much confidence with her shoulders back and her head held high. It was like there was only one woman coming to interview for this job even though there was a room full of girls waiting for the coveted PR position.
Mimi almost didn’t recognize her and when Stephanie landed the job and told her just how unconfident was about the job but she was faking the part. She thought she deserved an academy award for that acting job. Since the both of them were from the same Salem town in a big city like Chicago they both became good friends.
“Well I hope that is the case. I feel like if they don’t like me that seals the deal in this relationship.” Mimi said with a sigh.
“If it does well then he isn’t worth it.” Stephanie said firmly.
“He’s worth it Steph.” Mimi whined. “He’s the first person I’ve been serious about since I have left Salem.”
“I know.” Stephanie said with a laugh. Mimi has told her this probably a million times already. She is happy to finally be moving on. “Remember I will be in Denver this weekend for business. I could meet you there. It’s not far from his hometown. What is the name of the town again?”
“Golden Colorado I think, but I will be fine.” Mimi said softly. “I better get going. Brian will be here soon and I have to get ready.”
“I love you. Ok break a leg.” Stephanie said while hanging up the phone. Mimi takes a deep breath before heading to the bathroom. She takes a quick shower and uses the strawberry body wash that Brian had bought her for her birthday. He raves about the scent every time she uses it. She shaves her leg before heading out to tackle her hair.
She wanted no fly-aways when she met his parents after getting off the plane. Her hair seemed to get frizzy in a minute and she had no idea how it would react to the Colorado air. She knows her hair took a lot of stress from the dying she did when she was younger. Chloe told her about this amazing product that has worked wonders for her. Her hair doesn’t fly away and it still moves and bounces naturally. It doesn’t make her hair look like a helmet.
She decided to keep her short hair sleek and not spikey like she usually did. She applies a little lip gloss and a rose colored lip gloss that was Brian’s favorite. She puts on a light florally perfume just a dash on her wrists and a little on her neck. She put on a navy blue cardigan and khakis and but on her new big brown sunglasses. She felt like she really pulled off the Jackie O look. That she was ready to meet the parents.
She hears a knock on her door, she looks at her watch it is 9 on the dot. She didn’t have to open the door to know it is Brian. He is always on time and she is the exact opposite. She opens the door and smiles at him. He gives her a shock looked before kissing her on the check. Usually she is greeting him with a rollers still in her hair and her robe on. So he was surprise to see she was actually ready.
“I was prepared to sit and watch the morning news maybe even check out my stocks this morning.” Brian teased. He bends down and kisses her on the lips now then walks through the door. Brian was tall at least 6’3 with a medium build. His hair was short brown and he has the bluest eyes she’s ever seen. His eyes were what drawn her to him when they literally bumped into each other at the café next to her office. He was on his cell making deals on Wall Street like usual and she was on her phone gossiping with Stephanie like usual so they didn’t even notice each other. Once the cell phones were closed and they grabbed a table to talk they hit it off and they have been pretty much inseparable since.
Mimi looks him over and notices they look too matchy matchy. Brian is wearing a light blue button down and khakis also. She would go and change right now but she knew that was out of the question. It would take her at least a half hour to find an outfit that looked just as posh and made them look like a great couple without trying.
“I couldn’t be late for this. It might have delayed all of our plans.” Mimi walks over to her table to get her purse. “It’s your mom’s 60th birthday party. I want it to go off without a hitch.”
“Trust me it will since my mother is in charge.” Brian shakes his head and looks at his cell. It’s when he says things like this that makes her nervous. “Alright where are you going? Where’s your bag?” he asked. He slips his cell phone back in his pocket and looks up at her. She points to right next to the front door. It took her a while to get it there and a while to make it stand up so pretty.
Brian walks over to her bag and tugs at her suitcase. When he doesn’t move he looks back at her. He had to throw his hip into the bag to move it. “What do you have in here?” he asked wide eyed.
“The essentials like you said.” Mimi said with a smile.
“I think we have two very different ideas of the essentials.” Brian said while lugging her suitcase through her front door. Mimi looks around the apartment to make sure she has everything. She opens her purse to confirm she has her boarding pass and her id. She cuts off the light and looks the door. She looks over at Brian and smiles. He leans forward and gives her a quick kiss. “You’re going to have a great time.”
“Anytime I’m with you I have a great time.” Mimi said with a smile.
Rex Brady reaches in his pocket and hands the little girl a big red lollipop. She smiles and excitedly takes it.
“Well everything looks great in this check-up. So I won’t have to see Sophia for another 6 months.” Rex said to her Maria Hernandez her mother.
“Thanks Doctor.” She said with a smile and slipping on her coat. “Golden Colorado Family clinic made a smart decision by bringing you on.”
“Thanks. I’ll make sure to have you there at my review next week.” Rex joked.
“I would come in a heartbeat if that kept you in this town for a long time.” She said with a smile. Rex definitely read between the lines on that one. This isn’t the first time that Maria has left a subtle hint here or there. That’s why whenever she comes in with any type of illness he always gave Dr. Stevens her case. Today he couldn’t avoid it with the work load Dr. Stevens had. Here comes the question. “What are you doing this Saturday night? You know Mrs. Wellington is having a huge party at her house.” House, Rex thought to himself more like fortress. “She invited everyone from the company to go. I was wondering if you’d accompany me there.”
“I don’t know..” Rex started.
“It’s just a party date. I’m not asking you to marry me.” Maria said with a laugh. She grabs her purse. “You’ve been here for two years and we barely see you do anything. People are starting to talk.” She said firmly. “Whoever did a number on your heart its time you let it go.”
He felt like she must have talked to Philip or his mother because they both gave him this lecture the last time we talked. Moving on is easier said than done. He has tried to move on but he could never let anyone get too close. The one time he did, his heart was broken over lies.
“Well as I was saying I’m on call that night. But I’ll go if I can get someone to switch.” Rex said with a smile. Maria smiles back sheepishly feeling like she put her foot in her mouth. He felt a little bad when he saw her blush out of embarrassment since it wasn’t what he was going to say. Her speech did convince him to get out of his shell and go out more.
“Well just call me and let me know.” Maria said while moving her long black hair behind her ear. She picks up daughter and heads to the door.
“I will.” Rex opens the door for her. She stops at the door and looks back at him for a minute and smiles and tells him goodbye. He smiles and says goodbye also. Everyone was right it has been 2 years. It is time for him to move forward. Maria was a nice girl maybe going out with her is what he’d need to help him move on.
