I know this sounds like an odd question. An author friend sent me a story of his to review and said it's in the erotica genre. It's not exactly what I expected. I've never seen a really solid definition that clears things up for me.

Erotica, as I understand it, is a story where sex is the primary purpose and focus of the story. Its different from porn because it is literary and characters are developed but people read them expecting to see clothes come off, foreplay, etc. Hope this helps.

It does, heroicmuse , and that's what I thought as well, sort of using 50 Shades of Grey as the example. That being the case, what my friend wrote isn't erotica. It's word porn. LOL. Thank you!
