CONFERENCE ROOM AT TITAN AFTER HOURS, A WEEK LATER

Philip is sitting in a chair and only half paying attention to Melanie, who’s writing on a flip chart using markers of many colors. His elbow is resting on the conference table and his hand is supporting his head. He's trying to keep himself from nodding off.
Philip: It’s late. Let’s call it a night.
Melanie: Okay, but if you don’t care about your own company...
Philip: I care. I care. But I’m tired. And we’re never going to agree on a name. If you ask me, there’s nothing wrong with Book Keepers.
Melanie: That’s because you don’t have a creative bone in your body. With a name like Book Keepers, the only people who’ll visit the website are accountants.
Philip: Fine, then let’s call the bookstore Titan.
Melanie: Titan makes people think of the Titanic and we know what happened to that ship.
Philip: You are the most contrary person I’ve ever met. Is this how you talked to the executives at Amazon?
Melanie: Sometimes, yes. If they were as bull-headed as you’re being.
Philip: I’m done here. I’m going home.
He gets up out of his chair.
Melanie: That’s your answer to everything.
Philip: What are you talking about?
Melanie: If you don’t like what someone has to say, you leave.
Philip: That’s not true.
Melanie: Yes it is. You get the last word in, and you leave. Not much of a fighter, huh?
Philip lets out a scoffing laugh.
Philip: You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. Not much of a fighter? I have war wounds to prove how much of a fighter I am. Want to see my prosthetic leg?
Melanie: Ya, right.
Philip rolls up his pant legs as Melanie’s eyes go wide. Her shock immediately turns to anger when she sees that Philip has two good legs.
Melanie: You bastard.
Philip: I had you going there for a minute, didn’t I?
Melanie: You’re warped.
Philip: I know. Good night, Melanie. I’ll see you tomorrow.
Melanie: Philip, wait.
She moves closer to him and gets within kissing distance of Philip.
Melanie: You know, Philip, I think we could make a really good team if you ...
Philip: If I what?
Melanie: If you let yourself go a little.
She reaches up and pulls his head toward her and kisses him. He responds at first, then pulls away.
Philip: Isn’t this what got you fired from Amazon?
Melanie: Yes, but Jeff Gizmos isn’t nearly as cute as you are. It’d be worth the risk.
Philip: I’m not so sure.
Melanie: Well ... why don’t we find out?
Philip smiles and kisses Melanie.
