SALEM HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

Philip watched the crowd casually and, as the crowd parted, he saw her. An involuntary smile came to his lips momentarily and just as quickly vanished.

Sh!t. She was here. The Diva. He really didn’t want to see her and was trying to figure out an escape route so that she wouldn’t see him. He had no patience for dredging up the boyhood pain that lingered every time he thought of her. But before he could formulate his escape plan, she was standing in front of him.

Chloe: Philip! I didn’t expect to see you.
Philip worked at looking cool as he swirled the gin and tonic in his highball glass. He found the sound of the clinking ice comforting.
Philip: That makes two of us.
Chloe: You look amazing. You’ve definitely gotten better with age.
Philip: Are you here with your better half?
Chloe: Sorry?
Philip: Where’s Brady?
Chloe: I have no idea. We’re divorced. I’m here with ...
Just then, Shawn Douglas Brady walked over holding a couple of glasses. He handed Chloe her martini and held out his hand to shake Philip’s.
Shawn: Hey man! Great to see you.
Philip shook Shawn’s hand and eyed him suspiciously.
Philip: Are you two here ... together?
Chloe smiled as she linked her free arm with Shawn’s arm, looked into Shawn’s eyes and answered the question without looking at Philip.
Chloe: Yes, we are.
