BRADY PUB, A WEEK LATER
After working off some restless energy at the gym, Philip wandered into the pub for a pint. He walked over toward the bar and out of the corner of his eye, he couldn’t believe who he saw seated at a nearby table. She smiled at him, the warmest smile anyone has ever given him. She got up, ran over and hugged him. He scooped her up in his arms. It wasn’t until that moment that he realized how much he missed her and that no one else in the world could light up his soul the way she could.
Philip: Claire! My little Claire bear. What are you doing here?
Claire: Hi Uncle Philip.
The word “Uncle” cut into his heart like a knife. Uncle, not Daddy, a reminder that he was always only second best.
Claire: I’m here with my mommy.
Claire pointed to her mother whose beautiful smile rivaled her daughter’s. Belle walked over and Philip put Claire down and welcomed his ex-wife’s embrace. He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her off the ground slightly before putting her down. She took a step back to look at him.
Belle: You’re a sight for sore eyes.
Philip: You’ve never looked more ...
Belle: I got your voicemail. I laughed so hard I thought I was gonna pee.
Philip: Excuse me?
Belle: Were you drunk when you left that message? What possessed you?
Philip: I ... I heard that you and Shawn split up.
Belle: What???
Philip: I saw Shawn at the high school reunion. He was there with Chloe.
Belle: No he wasn’t.
Philip: Um.
Belle: Shawn hadn’t seen Chloe for years. At least not until the reunion.
Philip: But you didn’t come.
Belle: I guess that’s how rumors get started. The reason I didn’t come was because I didn’t feel well. Morning sickness.
Philip: Morning sickness?
Belle: Yup. Pregnant.
Philip tries to hide his surprise and disappointment at the news.
Philip: I’m ... happy for you. That’s great.
Belle: I know. Me and Shawn have been trying for ages. I was really sorry to miss the reunion, but Shawn tweeted me the whole time so I felt like I was there.
Philip: So you and Shawn didn’t split up?
Belle: No silly.
Philip: Why would Chloe say that she and Shawn were together?
Belle: I don’t know. I guess she thought it was funny. But they were just hanging out. They’re not a couple. That’s a ridiculous thought.
Philip: Right. Ridiculous.

Maybe if Philip hadn't just left the reunion so quickly & maybe actually stuck around, he would have seen it for himself.

Poor Philip. The guy can't catch a break. All the women that are interested in him aren't worth his time, and the ones he loves (yes, I mean plural) don't seem to want him. But we all know Belle isn't meant for him. Dude! Run back to Chloe!!!

LOL she could have meant "I was there with Shawn as my escort" not "I'm with Shawn in a relationship"...silly goose Philip.
Can't wait to see what's next. LOL Love how you wrote the teaser about Claire being the only one to fill his heart.
