daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8466776/1/SOW: At a Glance - Daniel; 3/15 Issue
Romance and marriage are sour subjects for Daniel this week. Shawn Christian reflects on Daniel's troubled love life, reconnecting with fans from As The World Turns and the plus side to Twitter.
Weekly: Carly confides her troubles to Daniel this week. How would you describe Daniel and Carly's relationship?
Christian: There is a mutual respect between them, because of the deep history that they share. They also share child. Their responsibility is their child and, considering that she didn't grow up with them, neither of them is that adept at raising a child. So they're sort of in the bunker together. Who knows where it will go from there?
Weekly: What does Daniel think about Jennifer's matchmaking?
Christian: Daniel is in no shape to fall in love or to romance anyone. It's not appealing to him. Daniel can't imagine going there, because of the disruption that [love] has caused up to this point in Daniel's life. So he's extremely resistant to any attempt at dating.
Weekly: Has Daniel truly processed his breakup with Chloe?
Christian: It is a constant struggle and constant battle. The minute Daniel thinks he is over Chloe, there is a subtle reminder of her. Chloe haunts him. But it's a tough love he's trying to deal with. It's a tragic love story.
Weekly: At this point, what are Daniel's priorities?
Christian: His daughter Melanie, Daniel's own sanity, and the well-being of Parker and Chloe. I think the mother/child relationship between Chloe and Parker is paramount for Daniel. It's huge, because of the relationship he knows that his own daughter has with her mother, which has not been great.
Weekly: Why does Daniel refuse Nathan's request for Melanie's hand in marriage?
Christian: You're talking about a guy who's just had his life turned upside down. He's still married, and his life is crumbling. So marriage hasn't really worked out for him. He's protecting his daughter from the very haunted feelings that he has about marriage.
Weekly: The one area where Daniel is excelling is his professional life. He reattached Jennifer's heart and saved her life!
Christian: He also saved Johnny's eye. It's almost an adrenaline [rush] that Daniel has. Medicine is a great distraction for him. He likes being in life-and-death situations. I think he's healed almost everyone in Salem (laughs).
Weekly: When you saw that the writers were breaking up Daniel and Chloe's marriage, did you see it as a opportunity for change?
Christian: As an actor, you have to muster up a different part of of your soul and energy. You have to make yourself open to all the experiences coming your way.
Weekly: You made your debut as ATWT's Mike. Now that ATWT is off the air, have you noticed any of those viewers migrating to Days?
Christian: I do get fan mail and tweets from former As the World Turns fans. They certainly have responded to Daniel.
Weekly: When you're on Twitter, what do you usually find yourself doing?
Christian: I usually respond to people's questions. It's a great way to connect. Quite often, I'll do random silly stuff, depending on the mood. I don't include much personal stuff. Some of the fans have been extremely generous, through charities and sending gifts to the studio. It gives me an opportunity to show my appreciation.
