Post contains spoiler information I try to refrain from posting about JPL's Philip, but I can't help myself...... JPL is not and has never been the Philip we knew and loved through JKJ's portrayal and it is evidenced in every episode we see with JPL as Philip... He is flat, one dimensional, lacks an expressive face and facial expressions and his line delivery is void of any meaning and subtext.. I find it difficult to watch him. And, a really minor issue, but still important, he doesn't dress or wear a suit the way JKJ did as Philip. Philip is a sharp and conscientious dresser; always concerned about his appearance. It was true when he was a teen and even more so as an adult. JPL looks unkempt and sloppy. His tie is always loose; jacket always opened and shirt cuffs rarely buttoned. I know this is trivial, but the way Philip dresses and the way he carries himself is a significant part of who he is. JPL never embraced that and never has been Philip. I am glad he is leaving the show, but my hope is that Philip isn't leaving the show and that JKJ will be back as Philip! I keep waiting to see news of who will be replacing JPL and waiting and hoping it will be Jay.... Here's the Philip we know and love!!  SaveSave |

I think the wardrobe is part of what is supposed to help us distinguish the two Philips. JKJ is a sharp dresser, more put together, darker, more intense. JPL's Philip is light hearted, far less intense, more fun, looser and that's reflected in the way he dresses. That being said I prefer JKJ.

I can't help but wonder if it is a little bit of the actor's influence. When he was on a reality show with his then-girlfriend, Farah Fath, I remember her complaining that he constantly wore pajama pants, like out in public. Maybe he doesn't feel comfortable buttoned up in a suit. Surely he's more professional than that though.
I keep hoping they are going to make a "big announcement" during the break for the Olympics to kind of get people hyped up and excited for the show's return. It's a pipe dream but hey...
