Chapter 276
METROPOLITAN CORRECTIONAL CENTER – CHICAGO
NYX: I've been waiting a while for this.
PHILIP: Is that so?
Nyx nodded.
NYX: I've heard so much about you. Mostly from the research my brother Erebus and I had done on all of you. You look different in person than the hundreds of pictures I've seen online.
PHILIP: Can we get down to business, please?
NYX: Of course. So, what can I do for you? What brings you here to see me?
PHILIP: I just want you to know that, whatever your plans were, they haven't worked. Thanks to my friends at the ISA and Chicago P.D., I've managed to get back all of the money you and your kid stole from me. I also know the truth about him now, and he has found a suitable home, far away from your influence.
NYX: So, you've come here to gloat, is that it?
PHILIP: Not necessarily. I've come to ask a few questions.
NYX: Ask away.
PHILIP: What's your name? Your real name, not that stupid Greek goddess name you use.
NYX: You may call me Nyx. If you really want to, you could call me Mila Harp.
PHILIP: Is that your real name?
Nyx shrugged.
NYX: Depends on your point of view. My father, Orpheus', name was no more or less real than mine.
PHILIP: Okay, so I'm not gonna get anywhere on that end. How about this, then. Why?
SALEM HIGH
It was the first day of the school year. All of the students were walking through the hallways. There were signs that pointed them towards the gymnasium, which they all headed to.
TRIX: So, this is Salem High, then?
CIARA: Yep. You've seen it before.
TRIX: Only twice, both times at night. And the second I was dead tired.
CLAIRE: I know the feeling. I think you'll like it here, though.
CHASE: She will. This place is great.
CLAIRE: Guys, I'm so excited! We're seniors this year! There's so much we get to do! Graduation, our last Last Blast Dance...
CIARA: Senior Ditch Day.
Claire shot her a look.
CLAIRE: Ciara, come on. You're not really gonna take part in Ditch Day, are you?
CIARA: Of course not. My mom's a cop. She'd totally flip if she found out I skipped school. I was just mentioning that it was something to do.
THEO: And it would be wrong to skip school, anyway.
CLAIRE: Exactly.
Joey leaned over so only he and Ciara could hear.
JOEY (whispering): We're totally doing Ditch Day, right?
CIARA (whispering): Oh hell yeah.
Soon, they were in the gymnasium and had all gotten seats on the bleachers. They were waiting for the beginning of the first day assembly. As Ciara looked out, she saw several familiar faces. However, she had to do a double take when she saw one.
CIARA (under her breath): What the hell?
Claire tapped her on the shoulder.
CLAIRE: You okay over there?
CIARA: What? Yeah, I'm good. Just thought I saw something.
CLAIRE: What?
But before Claire could answer, Mr. Woods stepped up to the podium to start the assembly.
