SALEM UNIVERSITY
SHAW: Are you still here?
PEYTON: Yes. It seems I don’t scare as easily as you’d like me to. How sad for you. But, you haven’t answered my question, was that a threat?
JOHNNY: ‘Cause if it was, it’s really not a good idea to threaten people, especially not when you’re part of an ongoing murder investigation.
SHAW: There’s no charges against me. The cops knew they didn’t have anything on me, so they let me go. I wasn’t even near Salem when poor Meadow was killed. I was away at college, which both of you should know.
MEADOW: We did tell the police that you didn’t live in Salem anymore. Meadow, I know it’s your new life’s ambition to make us the bad guys, but the most we did was mention that you and Meadow had a fight and that you could sometimes be intimidating. If the cops read something into that, or classified you as a suspect, that’s on them, not us.
SHAW: They wouldn’t have classified me as a suspect at all if you two hadn’t gone running your stupid mouths!
JOHNNY: Don’t talk to her like that!
MEADOW: It’s fine, Johnny. I can handle this. Though, he has a point. You shouldn’t be talking to either of us like this. Like Johnny said, it’s just not a good idea.
SHAW: Looks like somebody’s grown some balls over the last several months.
MEADOW: Yeah, I guess being out of your shadow kind of helped with that. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we should be getting to our classes. This is our last day before Thanksgiving break, after all. See you later, Meadow.
She, Johnny and Peyton turned and walked away.
SHAW: This isn’t over! You won’t be able to forget me this easily, Meadow!
But if they heard, they didn’t react. Shaw scoffed and stormed out.
PEYTON: Who was that?
MEADOW: An old former friend.
PEYTON: Some friend.
JOHNNY: You can say that again.
MEADOW: Her name is Meadow Shaw.
PEYTON: Same first name as you and the other Meadow.
MEADOW: Yep. The three of us were a clique back in high school, The Meadows. We were popular, but only because people were afraid of Shaw. She wasn’t violent, but she could be intimidating in a cruel kind of way.
JOHNNY: I don’t see why you were friends with her. No offense.
MEADOW: You’re good. To tell the truth, I don’t really get it either now that I’ve had some distance from her. She wasn’t always like that, but something changed her. Honestly, I’m kind of glad to be away from her.
PEYTON: Yeah, that makes sense.
JOHNNY: I’m glad you did, too. You’re kind of bringing out the best in me.
MEADOW: So are you in me.
Meadow kissed Johnny on the cheek.
SALEM P.D.
Shawn-D walked into Rafe’s office. Rafe was on the phone.
RAFE: Okay, thanks for confirming. No, I don’t think so. If there’s anything else, I’ll let you know. Yep. Thanks again. You too. Bye.
Rafe hung up and sighed.
SHAWN-D: I take it that’s not good news?
RAFE: Depends on who you ask. For our friend Meadow Shaw, it’s great news. When I interviewed her, she gave me permission to speak to the college she goes to, see if there’s anyone who can corroborate her story, and there was.
SHAWN-D: So that means we’re down a suspect. Well, I’m happy for the kid, at least.
RAFE: Me too. So, what other suspects do we have?
SHAWN-D: Not many, unfortunately. Miss Cole seemed to be a pretty well-liked person by most everybody. The only thing I can think is maybe the DiMeras, but even that’s a stretch. André’s in ISA custody, and even if he wasn’t, he’d have no reason to go after a random college student. Neither does E.J.
RAFE: Not so random. She was the best friend of the girl Johnny’s dating.
SHAWN-D: It doesn’t fit their M.O., though. Especially not the part about making it look like a suicide. Plus, as I was saying, there’s no motive there. The fact that she’s a friend of Johnny’s girlfriend wouldn’t matter. To our knowledge, if they even know of her, there’d be no reason for her to go after her.
RAFE: Good point.
SHAWN-D: Unfortunately, until we get the CCTV footage, we’re kind of at a loss. It’s a good thing security at Salem U is being cooperative.
RAFE: They have no reason not to be. A murder on campus, particularly in the dorms? It would make them look bad if they didn’t help the police.
Shawn-D’s phone went off.
SHAWN-D: Speaking of the footage…
He answered the phone.
SHAWN-D: Officer Brady. Okay, great, send it on up. Thanks.
He hung up.
SHAWN-D: The footage is on its way.
RAFE: Great. Hopefully this’ll give us a better idea of who we’re dealing with.
HOPE & AIDEN’S HOUSE
Hope brought a suitcase down the stairs and set it down.
HOPE: There we go.
AIDEN: That’s everything?
HOPE: Yep.
Hope and Aiden hugged.
HOPE: Are you sure that I can’t convince you to come? You know you’re more than welcome.
AIDEN: I know. Believe me, I would love nothing more than to join you. But, it’s also good for you to spend some time with Jen, Sarah and Melissa as cousins. I’m sure that the four of you will have a great time.
HOPE: We will. But, I am going to miss you, Mr. Jennings.
AIDEN: I’ll miss you, too, Commissioner.
Hope and Aiden kissed.
HOPE: Well, off to pick up Sarah and Jennifer.
AIDEN: Have a good time. Drive safe.
HOPE: We will. I’ll call you later, and see you in a few days.
AIDEN: See you then.
Aiden took one of the suitcases (Hope was bringing two) to the car. They hugged and kissed one last time, then Hope got in her car. She waved to Aiden as she pulled out of the driveway, and he waved back. Then, she drove away.
