Chapter 297
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Chelsea was sitting up in bed, holding her baby. Max was sitting nearby.
MAX: Things at the Pub are good, as always.
CHELSEA: That's good. I can't wait to get out of here so we can take little Isaac home.
The door opened and Tommy walked in.
TOMMY: Well, I have good news about that. I've been looking over the charts, and you and your baby are in perfect health. I'm having nurse Maxine print the discharge papers as we speak. You two are going home this morning.
SALEM HIGH
Claire and Ciara were at their lockers.
CLAIRE: So, you gonna give me some details?
CIARA: About what?
CLAIRE: About your date with Trix last night.
CIARA: It wasn't really a date.
CLAIRE: Uh-huh.
CIARA: It wasn't.
CLAIRE: Hey, you guys both like each other, you had dinner and went to a movie. If that's not a date, then what is?
CIARA: I don't know. When you put it like that, I guess it was a date. I'm just...I'm still getting used to admitting it, even to myself.
CLAIRE: It's okay. You'll get used to saying it after a little while.
CIARA; I hope so.
CLAIRE: So, how was biology?
CIARA: Not bad. Jade wasn't there, surprisingly.
CLAIRE: Well, that's good.
CIARA: How was English Lit?
CLAIRE: Great! We're starting Romeo and Juliet today.
CIARA: Cool.
The one minute warning bell rang.
CIARA: Well, I should get to class. What are you gonna do with your free period?
CLAIRE: No idea. Probably just go to the library. Good luck in class.
CIARA: Thanks.
Ciara picked up her backpack and walked away. Claire put a few more books into her backpack. She heard a small noise behind her, but paid no attention. She closed her locker, turned around, and jumped when she saw Jade standing right next to her.
JADE: Claire.
CLAIRE: What the hell, Jade? Are you trying to give me a heart attack or something?
JADE: Sorry.
Claire noticed that Jade looked extremely tired. She was holding her baby in one arm, and had a suticase in her other hand.
CLAIRE: Why are you staring at me?
JADE: Can we talk?
CLAIRE: Why? After everything that's happened, what could we possibly have to talk about?
JADE: Please, I need someone to talk to. I need help.
ALAMAIN MANSION
Nicholas paced the room. He was on the phone.
NICHOLAS: That's it, then? There's nothing else that you can do? You're absolutely sure? Okay. I see. Yeah. Okay. Thank you for calling. Bye.
Nicholas hung up and sighed. Ivan entered the room.
IVAN: I take it that madame still hasn't come out of her coma?
NICHOLAS: No, Ivan, she hasn't. According to the doctors, her injuries have healed. Logically, there's nothing wrong with her. She just won't wake up.
IVAN: Have you perhaps thought about calling in some professionals?
NICHOLAS: The people of Salem University Hospital are professionals.
IVAN: No, I mean, specialists. Surely you know someone you can call who can help madame.
Nicholas thought for a moment.
NICHOLAS: If only I still had that list of my father's connections. It was deleted during the data breach we suffered a few years ago. It would be so helpful now. But, now that I think of it, perhaps there is someone else who can help. Ivan, bring the car around. I have a visit to make.
