Well, I'm not sad to see him go. I just never warmed up to him being Philip.

I wonder if Philip will be recast or if they will have Philip leaving as well.

i liked him as Rex on OLTL but as phillip i never warmed up to him either! i just hope if they do recast they ask Jay first. id love to see him return..specially now that Nadia is back as Chole and back on contract.

I find it odd that they're writing out most of the Last Blast. Wonder how long Chloe is staying, as she's the only one who has not been let go of that set.

I wish there had been better writing this time around. The actor was fine but Philip's character was rewritten and that on top of a new actor made him hard to like.

I most definitely didn't care for the re-write of Philip's character, but I didn't care too much for the actor either. He was too monotone and emotionless. Philip is a multi-dimensional character and this guy didn't even portray him as 2 dimensional. I felt that he gave pretty much the same expression and monotone feeling in every one of his scenes.

Yeah, I just saw this on twitter. I'm still not really a fan of his Philip but I was willing to see what he did with Nadia. However this means that she's stuck in Deimos' orbit or all alone. There is almost no one left in the thirty zone. Unless we're doing a Broe reunion. Or maybe we'll get lucky and finally have JKJ back.

I won't miss him. Don't know if it was the writing or just him but Jay is still the only Philip for me. I would love for this to mean Jay was on his way back but I'm not optimistic.

Thank heavens! I'm glad we weren't the only ones he wasn't resonating with.

He was just never able to capture Philip and maybe it's just about impossible to step into a role previously occupied by an uber popular actor who made the role nearly iconic. I don't know. But JPL was terrible in the role, totally wooden and devoid of emotion. The writing had potential but they kept dangling the meat, then yanking it away, like a half-eaten meal.

wendylou , I would love it too if Jay had a change of heart.

I really don't want another Brady/Chloe go-round but with Theresa departing, I fear that may be the direction.

I guess I'm the odd one out on this, but I gotta say, I'm kinda sad to see him go. I actually liked JPL as Philip. He was different. I think that he could have been really good in the role, but the writing he was given was bad. Personally, I don't think he's that bad an actor, I just don't think the writers were playing to his strengths.

I agree with heroicmuse. It is strange how they're writing out all of the Last Blast generation. They could have had a great story with all of them back together again. Ah, well. Maybe someday.

It's a wasted opportunity. Having all 4 back would have been amazing, and I wonder if we would have been able to see a bit of switching up between the couples. The main problem with JPL is he wasn't really on that much. I feel like I wasn't given a chance to really acclimate to him. He wasn't able to grab me with his version of Philip like JKJ did. I wonder if it's just that Dena wants to add a darker shade to Philip that I just don't feel like JPL is capable of. His Philip was lighter, and he really wasn't able to bring the inner rage and passion to the character. Philip is a core character so I think we're going to hear news of a recast pretty soon.Unfortunately with Days filing schedule who knows how long this is going to take.

What we're probably going to get is a flirtation between Philip and Chloe, then Belle and Shawn leave. Shawn I think comes back first, then Philip and Chloe leave pretty close together. Philip due to the firing, and Nadia because of the maternity leave. Then Chloe comes back. I do think that we are going to hear news pretty soon of a recast. Or rumors of a casting call for Philip. This could just be a case of them wanting a new style of Philip that JPL isn't capable of. I don't know how many of you watched AMC but JPL is playing Philip almost exactly the same way as he played Rex on that show.
