I also thought Philip was a jerk, back then. He was so possessive & jealous. Thought Chloe needed to tell him to go away...I only started liking Philip after the whole chasing Belle & Shawn for Claire s/l and he became a decent guy...it was BROE all the way for me.

VIENNA
Brady leaves Chloe at the theater after lunch and goes to his office building. After riding the elevator to his office on the 25th floor, the receptionist hands him a stack of messages, most of which are from Victor. Brady promptly crumples them and throws them away. To hell with Granddad, he thinks to himself, and he heads off to the lobby-level bar.
Seated at the bar downstairs, Brady downs a shot of whiskey in an effort to distance himself from his feelings. Chloe is so naïve, Brady muses. She still sees him as her knight in shining armor. Meanwhile, his world is falling apart and he hasn’t got the heart to tell her, to disappoint her. As he shoots back a second scotch, a man takes the barstool next to Brady.
Man: Don’t I know you? Brady: I don’t think so. Man: Sure I do. You’re Chloe’s husband. I’m Freiderick. I work backstage at the Opera Company. Brady: Oh yeah, I do remember you. How’s it going, Freiderick? I’m Brady. The men shake hands. Freiderick: That’s right. Brady Lane. Brady: Uh huh. Freiderick: You look like you lost your best friend. Brady: I guess you could say I’ve had a bad day. But I’ll live. Can I buy you a drink? Freiderick: Sure, if you’ve got six bits. Brady: Bartender, pour my friend a drink.
Brady and Freiderick proceed to get drunk together and they stumble out of the bar after nightfall. Freiderick: You’re an okay guy, Lane. Brady: Name’s not Lane. But that’s okay. My wife calls me by the wrong name too. Freiderick: Hey listen, do you ever ... do the hard stuff? Brady: You mean drugs? I used to do painkillers when I was paralyzed from the waist down. Freiderick: Ha. You’re a funny guy. Here. I’ll give you something I take when I’m having a bad day. Almost always puts me in a better frame of mind. He hands Brady a small plastic bag. Brady: Um, thanks but no thanks. Freiderick: Take it, my man. This one’s on me, so what have you got to lose? If you don’t like it, you don’t have to use it again. If you do like it … well, you may just have found yourself a new best friend. Auf weidersein, my friend. Brady puts the bag in his pocket and heads home.
To be continued Monday …

I think Brady is going to make one very big mistake. This reminds me a bit like Go Ask Alice. Give the first one free and they get hooked and will pay anything for more. Poor Brady. Chloe may have had something to do with why Brady was feeling so down, but she was not the sole reason why. In the end it was Brady's choice to start taking the drugs. Thanks for the chaper Kpatch. Love reading all that lead up to Brady's addiction.

As awful as it is, I really like this line: Brady: Name’s not Lane. But that’s okay. My wife calls me by the wrong name too. So sad. So telling. Can I comfort him? I realize I'll have to get in line, but I can be patient.

Can I comfort him? I realize I'll have to get in line, but I can be patient. That's right, no cutting in line

Brady: Name’s not Lane. But that’s okay. My wife calls me by the wrong name too. I think maybe my blonde roots are showing today, cause this one flew right over my head. LOL Thanks for another great chapter. I love that you are filling in the blanks for us. I can totally see all of this happening. I am visualizing it all Love that he called him Lane though. That's my hubby's name too LOL

That line definitely made me go "ouch".
I love having this backstory and this is pretty much how I've imagined it to turn out for the two off screen, too. Thanks for putting it down.

It's great to see the downward spiral for Brady that the show never gave us. Not great that it happened but to finally have some answers. Thanks Kpatch.

Sad story Kpatch, but very well written. Thank you.
@gg, it took me a minute at first too, but Brady is referring to Chloe calling out Philip's name.
