Scissor Happy (Scenes That Got Cut) (Read 1,815 times)

The show has been feeling choppy for quite some time. I found out scenes are being cut out of episodes. Back in February I was checking the NBC recaps because I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any Maggie and Victor scenes. I found a few mentions of bits that were not in the episode.

The recaps are on iTunes and seem to be the same as was on NBC's page.

Not that it's needed since iTunes has the recaps but I was curious.
I was able to get other pages by using a URL that still works but I think it only works for season 51:

I haven't gone through to find out when it breaks.

Fynn tells Victor that if Brady takes care of himself, he should make a full recovery. Meanwhile, Maggie tries to pretend with Philip that she's fine, but she ends up sobbing in his arms. Victor comes home and comforts Maggie as well. Maggie can't handle her grief and runs out. Philip needs Victor's help with a few Titan-related issues, but Victor snaps at him. Unhappy, Philip leaves...

The part with Fynn talking to Victor was the only part in the show.

Steve tells John that Kayla may think she wants Steve to change, but she’s wrong: he’s still the guy she first fell in love with, and she’ll come to realize that’s who she wants to be with.

Nicole confides her dilemma to Dario, who gives her advice on how to execute a con and to follow her heart.

This cut became very apparent when Dario came up to Nicole in Brady Pub on Friday and asked about her con.

Hope insists that Rafe help her find proof of what Deimos confessed.

Kayla shows up at Steve’s, wanting to talk about Joey. Kayla’s worried about his involvement with Jade, Steve’s actually glad he’s found someone. The fight escalates, with Steve feeling the more they put up boundaries, the more Joey will rebel. Steve is sure Kayla still loves him, but she believes more strongly than ever that it can’t work, especially with Joey’s being in such trouble. Kayla leaves Steve angry.

Later, Steve tries to call Joey, who doesn’t answer because he’s with Jade. At the same time, Kayla runs into Fynn, who sees she’s upset. She admits she and Steve had an argument, and Fynn blurts he told Steve to stay away from her. Kayla admits she’s the one who went to Steve, but it went badly. But she appreciates Fynn’s protectiveness. Steve, passing through, sees them in a warm moment, and doesn’t like it.

All of this was cut.

Episode #12818 Wednesday April 6, 2016

Summer is thrown when Maggie makes a comment about not deserving a second chance with her daughter. Later, Summer meets Justin and is upset when he mentions Victor not trusting her.

Summer and Maggie discussing second chances is the last scene for Summer in the episode. Justin's only scenes were with the ISA agent, et al and then with Roman.

Sadly this isn't a new phenomenon but it may be getting worse. There were many scenes cut featuring Philip the last couple months before Jay left the show.

What doesn't make sense is cutting scenes that help build a story that isn't being dropped.

Exactly this. I can't remember exactly where I read it, but I know that they cut the scene of Jennifer staggering around the Square that Lucas was referring to. That scene, and scenes like it, would go a long way towards making this pill addiction story believable.  Thanks to these cuts, stories seem disjointed and half the time I feel like I missed something because the characters are referring to something I didn't see.

In the episode, Jennifer takes the pill bottle out of her purse then puts it back, without taking a pill.

Episode #12820 Friday April 8, 2016

Chad leaves to go home. He sees a slurred and staggering Jennifer (who took two pain pills earlier) and, believing she's suffering a stroke, suggests he take her to the hospital. Lucas interrupts and by asking her a few questions realizes she's buzzed due to pills. He insists to Chad he'll handle her.

All of this was cut. Jennifer and Lucas were not in the episode at all.

Chad goes to talk to Jennifer (who after being berated by Marlena decides against taking a pain pill)

There were no scenes with Jennifer and Marlena together so the berating might be reference to Friday the 15th. There wasn't a scene of Jennifer contemplating taking a pain pill. Jennifer's first appearance in the episode is at home, sitting on the couch, holding a cup of coffee. She's in the middle of a discussion with Chad about Abigail.

Chad insists JJ and Jennifer leave him to take care of Thomas. Jennifer wants to take care of the baby herself, but Chad insists he’ll do it. He clings to his son; promises he’ll keep him safe always. Meanwhile, Jennifer has some stress related back pain, but assures JJ that, at least for tonight, she’s not taking a pill.

The last bit was cut.

Gosh, this explains why he went to her house AND looked for the hidden key. They had lots of options for cuts other than this... The repeat of Rafe and Hope saying goodnight at the door; repeat of Hope moving around the living room before Aiden surprises her; Aiden wandering around the living room; another repeat of Rafe and Hope saying goodnight at the door; another repeat of Hope moving around the living room before Aiden surprises her.
