Who is planning to watch?
Are you rooting for any films or actors?
I think I saw some movie this past year but I can barely remember. I think it was the Holmes movie, but that might have been the year before.

The only movies I've seen this year are Star Wars and a couple kid movies.
I like seeing the gowns and jewels on the red carpet.

I think the only nominated movie I've seen is The Martian. I really liked it but I guess Leo and The Revenent are expected to win. I will probably check out a bit but I don't know about watching the whole thing.

I watched the opening, but got bored after the first award was given out. None of the nominated movies appeal to me. The same people are nominated year after year.

I'm not watching this year. I seldom watch the Oscars anymore. Partially because I don't recognize most of the people but mostly because I see very few new movies these days. Not much appeals to me enough to shell out for the ticket and then have to put up with folks who talk and comment nonstop. I get enough of that at home from hubby for free (-ish, we do pay for satellite). But I can hit the pause and rewind when it happens at home.

We always watch these shows with our own ballots filled out (before the show stars) and then we see who wins. That, at least, makes it interesting for us.
In any case, what else am I going to watch? A re-run on another channel?

I get tired of the soap box and self-importance. These people don't live in the real world. In my world, we don't have red carpets and awards spectacles and multi-million dollar paychecks, and we work just as hard.

In my world, we don't have red carpets and awards spectacles and multi-million dollar paychecks, and we work just as hard. That's kind of how I feel. I like movies and actors but they are some of the luckiest people on earth who make ridiculous money and this is basically just another night for them to be pampered and congratulate themselves at being genetically blessed and good at playing pretend (for the most part). I heard on the radio that Louis CK made a comment about how the short documentary makers were the really dedicated ones because they don't make any money for those kinds of things and they'd be driving their Oscars home in a Honda. I thought that was cute.

I don't even bother with majority of awards shows. 9.9 times out of 10, the movies nominated I've never even heard of and if there is some kind of tragic story tied to a movie or actor, then you better believe that they are gonna win based on sympathy vote....not on quality or talent within the movie outdoing other movies. Not only that, the political turn that I've heard that this years show took, I'm glad I tuned out. I've had enough politics and political correctness bull. But that's a whole other soapbox that I won't bring to this forum

My husband only likes the people's choice awards since regular people are voting for what they enjoy watching.
