So I've been wanting to do a Days fanfic for forever but I fear that I won't be able to get it as detailed as some others (such as one's on this site) and that I won't be able to capture the essence of the characters as they are portrayed in the show. Any tips on getting past this?

TJ Just start writing! I think we ALL have that voice in our heads. I can't tell you how many times I've been nervous about a particular chapter or scene and convinced that everyone will think it's horrible and then people really like it. What helps me is to think of my versions of these characters as my characters who happen to have the same names as the ones on the show. (I kind of have to do that anyway since half the characters in my story are dead on the show...) And remember too that you can revise as much as you want before you post. A lot of times my first draft of a scene is totally different from what I eventually post. I write scenes quickly to get them down and then go back and revise to make them the way I want them. I hope this helps. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you write. BTW in general we comment on what we like about each story so that should help reduce the pressure.

TJ, I used to just write script style, just the dialogue. Dialogue is way easier for me than descriptives. Like heroicmuse said, just start writing. As writers we all evolve and you have to start somewhere and it might as well be here. MyHourglass is a safe place to post your stories. We only ask you to finish what you start out of courtesy to readers who take the time to read your stories. myhourglass.proboards.com/thread/25/authors-readers-etiquetteLooking forward to your tales. Let us know if you have questions or need more advice. We are in this together.

Thank you heroicmuse and Kpatch for the very kind and very helpful words of advice. I will likely do script style because I find that easier to do when writing. I will also probably write a few chapters before I post the thread just in case I get busy so that I can post them on a somewhat coherent schedule. P.S: I'm in a writing course this semester so hopefully (and I assume it will) it helps me!

speaking from my own experience, I have had great difficulty with this myself. I stopped writing for a long time because I was worried about the feedback when it comes to characters on this show, I strongly believe it is your own vision of the characters, everyone sees them differently and honestly there are so many now that the writers have ruined, I say anything you write at this point could redeem them! for example, when Kpatch writes about Chloe, I actually prefer this because it is the original Chloe and this is how I imagined her character would age, where the writers completely ruined her and her friendships. write, and love what you write and when you are ready post it or don't what ever you want it is your creation having the fear is totally normal but I believe it's a risk worth taking and I know you can do it
