In the 2006 quad storyline, Sami got Austin but didn't want him because she loved Lucas. Meanwhile Lucas got Carrie only to realize he didn't want her and still loved Sami. To me that was the perfect ironic resolution that laid all the sibling rivalry between the sisters and the brothers to rest. If Lumi had listened to me ten years prior to that it could have saved them a lot of wasted years. I always thought Sami was crazy to want Austin instead of Lucas and that Lucas was crazy to have ever wanted Carrie instead of Sami. As far as I'm concerned Sami outgrew Austin years ago just like Lucas outgrew Carrie and found their true soulmate in each other. I was not fulfilled in 2006. I am a Sami and Austin fan first and foremost. Lucas and Sami second to that. I wanted a legit Sami and Austin story. It is not been there done that for me, because Sami never got him. It is no different than wanting Phloe to finally get together in my mind - or Brady and Nicole

Couldn't have said it better Kazz. For me,the Austin/Sami/Lucas/Carrie pairings were puppy love, preparing Lucas and Sami for the real thing.

I bet if you ask Sami, she would say her real thing is Rafe. So really you are only as good as your current pairing on a soap. I wouldn't mind Sami to dabble with a new man for a while. It has been 3 years with Rafe, which means in soap 101, time for a new man.

True, but times are changing. What worked in 2006 may not work now.Rafe isn't the brightest light in the box,but at least she isn't sleeping around like most soap women.

@slyn, I'm surprised, until now I have never met anyone who preferred Saustin. Brami, Safe even EJ/Sami (which I will never comprehend) but never Saustin. There was a time when I probably would have considered Austin the worst choice for Sami but after Brandon, EJ and Rafe I think I'm even more surprised to realize that at this point Austin (esp. portrayed by Patrick Muldoon) would be my second choice for her. He is a very distant second from Lucas who I believe is her perfect match but he still beats out all the others IMO.
Safe is an even lamer version of Caustin to me. If Sami had been a brand new character that arrived with Rafe and there had never been a better Sami to compare her against and no Lumi to compare the couple against I would have still not liked this Sami, nor Rafe, nor Safe ..... just like I never cared for Carrie, Austin or Caustin.

I love a bad girl getting a good boy. It is classic. I wanted Sami to get her man. Lucas and Sami I liked, tho in the end they were starting to get too sappy for me, and I enjoyed EJ shaking things up. Making Lucas a Horton wrecked them for me. I like Lucas flawed, a Roberts, and very much capable of breaking the law. He lost that in his later years. And I understand the allure of EJAMI completely. I just have James Scott issues, or else I so would be team EJAMI. EJ and Nicole though...I love to watch them in scenes together. They just sparkle and bring out the best in each other (acting wise) and I love good performances. Delina - I agree it is a new time, and what worked in 2006 won't work now. I absolutely agree. That is why Sami needs to switch things up a bit. Modern soaps have partner changes, to keep people interested. So all of us who hate Sami and Rafe get some time off from that, and get to see Sami with someone new. If Rafe is supposedly her main guy, he will still be in the picture. It will give the SAFE fans something to root for besides whether or not Safe can fix the toy train before Johnny gets home. RME

I like Lucas flawed too but I loved him taking the Horton name. I don't think it was the name change that changed Lucas though, that was all on Tomlin. He didn't want his creation Rafe to have any competetion so he stuck Lucas in that ridiculous storyline with Chloe and kept him as far apart from Sami as possible even to the point of absurbity (i.e., Lucas not being at Grace's funeral). Just in case I haven't said it often enough, I'm thrilled that Tomlin is gone is that Meng is the one to replace him. As much as I miss the character, I didn't want Lucas back under Tomlin's reign. Under Meng, I feel a lot more confident that Lucas would return fully restored.

I don't want Sami and Austin together again. I was always a Carrie and Austin fan.( I remember when they got married the first time (When the wedding really happened LOL) I had had a heart attack the day before the wedding was to air. The morning of the wedding I was looking all around my room, but saw no TV. The nurse told me no TVs in the CCU hot side. I asked if there was a waiting room on the floor with a TV hooked up to cable. I was told yes. I replied I would go there to watch the show. She reminded me I was not allowed out of bed yet. I response was no problem just push the bed into the waiting room. She laughed and I said but Carrie and Austin are getting married today. She said they would just have to do it without me.) I did get to see part of the wedding on tape when I was discharged. I was so happy when the quad ended with Carrie and Austin getting married again. Please writers lets leave one couple happy.

You know that Nurses make the worst patients. LOL. I was so upset they would not push my bed down the hall. The monitors are portable

I don't see how hard it would have been to have Ej and Philip at odds like always and Rafe (the cop) in the middle trying to catch either of them in a compromising situation. It is soap 101. Apparently Tomlin skipped that class.

Although I see the allure to the bad girl getting the good guy if the good guy never loved the bad girl, I don't think the audience could EVER buy the couple as viable. The is pretty much what occurs with Ej and Sami and why it looks like so many GA members have issues accepting them as a viable pairing. Ej's 'love' for Sami comes off as obsessive, and pretty much that is the way I always viewed Sami's feelings for Austin. That is why although the story as presented in 2006 wasn't well received, the idea JER had was a very good one...in other words, let's show that when the possibility existed of Sami getting Austin and Lucas getting Carrie, that at the end, both Sami and Lucas had ALREADY experienced what it was like to be truly loved by someone and to love someone in turn with the same intensity. Everything else they would get after that with those they believed to be their true love from childhood would pale in comparison. Plus I found it delicious that after telling the entire world that he didn't want the 'bad girl Sami' anymore and that he was looking for stability and tranquility in his relationship, that Lucas didn't get any of that from the good girl. The bad girl was standing right by his side when the crap hit the fan. It was wonderfully ironic what occurred with that quad, but I agree with Kazz, I think attempting anything similar with Austin and Sami would be regressing the character of Sami once again.
That is why I believe that speculation out there now is that Will and Gabby will be pregnant, Will will want to have Caustin raise his child, while Sami and Rafe who probably can't have children of their own are trying to convince Will to give them the baby to raise....that pits Safe vs Caustin and it leads for the perfect opportunity to have Lucas return and tell Will exactly what a mistake it would be to give up his child period. Talking from experience he is the only one that could tell him what exactly his life would be like without Will around, and he would probably be dead.

DJM, that may be the best devotion-to-my-soap story ever! That is the best story ever. When I was in high school my Mom let me call in sick to school because we had a broken VCR and it was Cruz and Eden's wedding on SB. There was no way I was going to school that day!
