Chapter 17

ST. LUKE'S
SYDNEY: Grandma?
MARLENA: Hello, Sydney.
SYDNEY: You're...you're here!
MARLENA: In a sense, yes.
SYDNEY: But...how?
MARLENA: Well, I wasn't going to miss my granddaughter's wedding.
SYDNEY: I don't understand.
MARLENA: Like I told you a while ago, Sydney, I will always be with you. Whenever you need anything, I'll be here.
SYDNEY: I need you. Grandma, I'm nervous.
MARLENA: I know. But, I also know that you are so strong. And I know how much you and Ceri love each other, and that you'll be very happy together.
SYDNEY: I know. I just miss you so much!
MARLENA: I miss you, too. And it's very natural for you to be nervous before your wedding. But, trust me, Sydney, you will be amazing. This will be the happiest day of your's and Ceri's life.
Sydney nodded.
SYDNEY: I love you, grandma!
MARLENA: I love you too, Sydney. And I am so, so proud of the woman you've become.
Marlena put a hand on Sydney's shoulder. Though she couldn't explain how, Sydney felt it.
MARLENA: Now, it's time for you to marry the love of your life.

LIMO
CERI: What the bloody hell, Lilith? Why are you doing this?
LILITH: Because, it's the day of your wedding, and I need to talk to you.
CERI: I'm gonna be late!
LILITH: Just give me a minute.
CERI: Well, it's not like I can do much else.
LILITH: Exactly. Now, when I came to Salem, it was to see you. Because, I thought we could rekindle the magic we had together.
CERI: We never had anything together!
LILITH: To you, maybe. But, I felt something. And I needed to see if I still felt that. And, I do. But, seeing you and Sydney together has made me realize that, maybe I'm not the right one for you. I still love you. I always will. But, you don't, and I have to accept that.
CERI: That's a surprisingly mature stance to take.
LILITH: Anyway, this is for you. I figured, if my ex-girlfriend was gonna get married, even if it wasn't for me, she should go to her wedding in style. This is my gift to you.
CERI: So, you did this? Even though you know there's nothing between us, you still went to the trouble of getting me a limo?
LILITH: Well, you're not the only one with rich parents.
CERI: This has been a truly bizarre experience. But, thank you.
LILITH: You're welcome. Now, you've got a wedding to get to.
Lilith turned back, started the limo up, and drove.

ST. LUKE'S
The limo pulled up. Rhiannon ran up just as Ceri was getting out.
RHIANNON: There you are! Where have you been?
CERI: I had some unfinished business to take care of.
RHIANNON: You okay?
CERI: Yeah. I'm fine.
RHIANNON: Good, now let's get in there. Your wedding's about to begin!
Ceri and Rhiannon went inside. In a different room, Lucas walked in.
LUCAS: You ready?
SYDNEY: Almost. Can you help me with my veil?
LUCAS: I'd be happy to.
Lucas walked over and put the veil over Sydney's face.
LUCAS: There we go.
Sydney looked to the mirror. Marlena smiled at her, and vanished. Sydney smiled and turned back to Lucas.
SYDNEY: Okay, now I'm ready.

Whoa, I wonder if Sydney's not the only one who got a ghostly visit. Though I don't trust Lilith to not cause some other trouble now that Ceri thinks everything's okay.

I can't wait for the wedding to start!!!! I wish this was on TV so we could actually see Sydney in her gorgeous dress.

Chapter 18

ST. LUKE'S
SYDNEY: Okay, now I'm ready.
Lucas held out his arm.
LUCAS: This way, m'lady.
Sydney put her arm around Lucas'. They walked out, and got in line behind the flower girl. After making some final adjustments, everyone was ready, and the wedding began. Click here to listen to the music during the processional. Ceri was first to walk up, with her father, Nicholas, on her arm. They walked up the aisle until they got to the altar. Nicholas gave his daughter a kiss on the cheek, then sat down in a pew in the front row, next to Nicole. The next one up was Sonny, who took his place at the other side of the altar. Max was next, and joined him up there. Next was Chelsea, who stood near Rhiannon. After her was J.J., who took his place next to Chelsea. Next came Will, who took his place next to Sonny. Next came Rhiannon, who stood between her sister and J.J. Next up came Mel and Georgia, two of Chelsea and Max's triplets, who are now three years old. They were both ring bearers. They brought the little pillow with the rings up the aisle, and then stood next to their father. Then, came the flower girl, Max and Chelsea's other triplet, Holi. She threw flowers on both sides of the aisle, and walked up to stand by her mother. The song came to a stop. Then, came the traditional song for weddings. Click here to listen to it. Sydney was walked up the aisle by Lucas. She smiled as she got close to the altar and saw everyone standing up there. Finally, they got up to the altar. Sydney gave Lucas a kiss on the cheek.
SYDNEY (whispering): Thanks, Lucas.
Lucas kissed Sydney on the cheek, then took his seat between Sami and Allie. Sydney smiled as she saw her whole family. Sami, Allie, Lucas and John. Next to John was an empty space in the pew. Or, to everyone else, it appeared to be an empty space. Sydney could see Marlena sitting there. Father Jacob, the priest at St. Luke's had been sitting down at the pulpit. He got up, and walked up to the wedding couple.
JACOB: Good morning.
CONGREGATION: Good morning.
JACOB: We are gathered together to join these two in marriage, Sydney Anne DiMera and Ceridwen Lynnette Alamain. I shall begin with a few words about this couple. Unfortunately, I did not have the good fortune to watch Ceri growing up. She and her sister, Rhiannon, moved to Salem when they were fifteen. But, since first meeting her one Sunday when she came with Sydney, I knew that these two were meant to be. Now, Sydney, on the other hand, I did get to watch grow up. And, needless to say, things were not always good for her. But, once she met Ceri, everything changed. These two together are one of the happiest couples I have ever met. I have no doubt that God will grace them with many long years of happiness. Now, Sydney and Ceri have chosen a hymn for their wedding. They feel that it was grace that brought them together. So, please turn your books to page 311.
The congregation got out their song books and turned to the correct page. The organist began playing.
CONGREGATION (singing): Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.
Sydney looked over at Ceri. They smiled and took each other's hand.
CONGREGATION (singing): ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed! Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ‘tis grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

Beautiful processional! I also am really happy to see them have a religious wedding with a priest who is totally accepting of them as a gay couple.

Chapter 19

ST. LUKE'S
After the song had finished, Nicholas walked up to the Pulpit.
NICHOLAS: A reading from the First Epistle of St. John, the fourth chapter, starting at the seventh verse. St. John writes: Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. This is the Word of the Lord.
Nicholas went back to his seat.
JACOB: Please turn to page 172 in your hymnals.
The congregation did so and began another song.
CONGREGATION (singing): Morning has broken, like the first morning, blackbird has spoken like the first bird; praise for the singing, praise for the morning, praise for them springing fresh from the Word. Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven, like the first dewfall on the first grass; praise for the sweetness, of the wet garden, sprung in completeness where his feet pass.
Sydney and Ceri smiled at each other.
CONGREGATION (singing): Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning, born of the one light Eden saw play; praise with elation, praise every morning, God’s re-creation of the new day.
The congregation put their hymnals away as Father Jacob stood up again, and motioned for everyone else to.
JACOB: Please rise for the reading of the Holy Gospel.
The congregation rose.
JACOB: A reading from the Holy Gospel According to St. Matthew, the 22nd Chapter, beginning with the 35th verse.
CONGREGATION: Glory to you, oh Lord.
JACOB: Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked Jesus a question, tempting Him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. This is the Gospel of the Lord.
CONGREGATION: Praise be to you, oh Christ.
Father Jacob motioned for the congregation to sit.
JACOB: Please be seated.
The congregation sat back in their seats. Father Jacob walked down to stand by the wedding party.
JACOB: It is now the part of the service in which the couple who is to be married exchange vows. I have been informed that Sydney and Ceri have written their own vows. You may say them at this time.
