Chapter 7

SALEM PLACE
It is now a few days later. Lilith was walking though Salem Place. She had been to Java Cafe and gotten a coffee and was now looking around. She felt a hand tap her on the shoulder. She turned around to see Joey.
JOEY: Oh my gosh. It really is you!
LILITH: Joey?
JOEY: Hey!
Lilith and Joey hugged.
LILITH: Hey! How are you?
JOEY: I'm good. How are you?
LILITH: Good. I haven't seen you in years!
JOEY: What's it been, since boarding school?
LILITH: Boarding school, before I moved to Wales.
JOEY: And before I moved back here.
LILITH: That was so long ago.
JOEY: It was, yeah. What are you doing in town?
LILITH: I came to visit a friend. Had no idea I'd be seeing two.
JOEY: Who's the other friend.
LILITH: Ceri Alamain.
JOEY: Oh, Ceri. Yeah, I went to high school with her.
LILITH: Really? So, I'm guessing you also know her girlfriend?
JOEY: Fiance, actually.
LILITH: Fiance. Right.
JOEY: Yeah, I know her. Sydney's really cool.
Lilith rolled her eyes.
LILITH: Didn't seem that special to me.
JOEY: Whoa, whoa, hold on here. Are you jealous?
LILITH: What? Me, jealous? As if.
JOEY: You are, aren't you?
Lilith looked around to see that nobody was listening.
LILITH: Okay, maybe a little bit.
JOEY: You like Ceri, as more than a friend.
LILITH: Yes.
JOEY: Have you told her?
LILITH: Of course I have, but she's convinced that she loves Sydney.
JOEY: Well, they're gonna be married in a week and a half.
LILITH: Yeah, I guess. So, what about you? How are you doing?
JOEY: I'm fine. Haven't done anything too exciting. Just on winter break from Blackhawk.
LILITH: Blackhawk?
JOEY: It's a business/tech college.
LILITH: Gotcha.
JOEY: Hey, do you wanna go for a walk, maybe?
LILITH: Sure. Let's go.

DORM ROOM
Later that evening, Sydney was sitting on the couch, watching TV, when a knock came to the door. Sydney got up and answered it. Allie stumbled in.
ALLIE: Hey.
SYDNEY: Hey. Did you forget the key's under the mat?
ALLIE: Oh, yeah. I guess so.
Allie hugged Sydney.
ALLIE: It's been kind of a long day.
SYDNEY: Yeah. What have you been up to?
ALLIE: Oh, just hanging out with friends. Catching *hic* up, you know, the ushual.
SYDNEY: Have you been drinking?
ALLIE: I may have had a teeny, tiny bit, yeah. But, trust me, I am absholutely fine. I'm just a little dizzy, is all.
Allie leaned against a wall.
ALLIE: Although, I can't see how you couldn't be dizzy, what with the room spinning. Wee!
SYDNEY: Okay, we're gonna take a little walk, Allie. Come here.
Sydney put an arm around her big sister, and put Allie's arm around her.
ALLIE: Where *hic* are we going?
SYDNEY: You'll see. We're just gonna walk down the hall here.
Sydney led Allie to the bathroom and they got there just in time.

Lilith gets around. So Allie went back on her promise to Will already. I hope Grampa Lucas has a loooong talk with her about the perils of alcohol.

Uh oh. Allie is in trouble, major trouble. I also think she'd better talk to Lucas.

Lilith and Joey are probably going to end up being a bad combination.

I wonder if Joey will get involved with whatever Lilith is planning.

Chapter 8

DORM ROOM
The next day, Allie woke up with a splitting headache. It was Saturday, so neither Sydney nor Ceri had school, but Ceri had work. Sydney had been in and out periodically to check on Allie. She came in and sat on the edge of the bed.
SYDNEY: Hey.
ALLIE: Hey.
SYDNEY: Any better yet?
ALLIE: A little. I don't think I'm dying anymore.
SYDNEY: Good.
Sydney patted her sister's hand.
SYDNEY: You want some food? Maybe some toast or something?
Allie winced.
ALLIE: No, please, don't mention food. I can't even think about food right now.
SYDNEY: Okay.
Sydney looked around room Allie was staying in, and then back to Allie.
SYDNEY: You know we can't go on like this, Allie.
ALLIE: What do you mean?
SYDNEY: This. This has to stop.
ALLIE: No idea what you mean.
SYDNEY: Come on, Allie. You've been here for almost a week, and you've come home completely wasted every night this week. And, don't think I didn't notice it the night you came here, either.
Allie rolled her eyes.
ALLIE: Look, it's not that bad.
SYDNEY: Okay. If it's not that bad, perhaps you wouldn't mind some big, juicy sausages or some nice runny eggs...
Allie put a hand over her stomach and groaned.
ALLIE: Okay, okay, I get your point. Maybe I have been overdoing it a bit.
SYDNEY: What's going on with you, Al?
ALLIE; I don't know. I just wanted to have a bit of fun.
SYDNEY: Are you having fun now?
ALLIE: No.
SYDNEY: I didn't think so.
ALLIE: Like I said, I've been overdoing it. But, all of my friends want to get together for drinks, and I always plan to just have one or two, and then I kinda lose count.
SYDNEY: I think we need to talk to Lucas.
Allie sat up, and instantly regretted it. After taking a moment to recover, she continued talking.
ALLIE: No. You cannot tell my dad. Or mom.
SYDNEY: Allie, I'm worried about you. This isn't you. You need to talk to somebody.
ALLIE: No, I don't. I'm fine.
SYDNEY: You certainly weren't fine last night when you were praying to the procelein gods.
ALLIE: Mom and dad can never know about this. You can't ever tell them.
SYDNEY: I have to. I'm worried about you. I don't want you to get hurt, or worse.
Allie eased her way back to laying down.
SYDNEY: Allie, come on, what's going on with you? Did something happen at school?
Allie turned so she was facing the wall and pulled the covers up over her head.
ALLIE: I don't wanna talk about it.
Sydney sighed, rubbed Allie's back, and quietly left the room. She went into the living room of the dorm, pulled out her phone, and dialed a number.
SYDNEY: Hey, it's me.
Pause.
SYDNEY: We need to talk. It's really important.
Pause.
SYDNEY: It's about our sister. I think something's wrong with her.

Ooh. Is Sydney talking to Will or to Johnny, I wonder? I'm glad she told Allie she needs to stop this and she needs to talk to someone before this goes on any further. I wonder what happened to Allie that triggered this.

Can't wait to find out who Sydney called! I could see her calling Will more so than Johnny since Will knows all about Lucas's struggle with alcohol.

Pretty sure Sydney called Will, since she said "our sister." I'm glad she mentioned Lucas. She should go ahead and call him whether Allie likes it or not.

Chapter 9

SALEM U
Ceri sat behind her desk at the Student Center, looking at things on her laptop. Saturdays were usually her slowest days, and she spent most of her time studying, when not making copies or helping other students. Then, she heard a boy clear his throat. She looked up.
CERI: J.J.?
Sure enough, J.J. was standing in front of the desk.
J.J.: Hi.
Rhiannon popped out from behind J.J.
RHIANNON: Hey.
CERI: Hey!
Ceri got up and ran around the desk to hug her twin.
CERI: I'm so glad to see you!
RHIANNON: I'm glad to see you, too!
CERI: When did you get here?
RHIANNON: Just now. We drove all morning to get to Salem this afternoon.
CERI: I'm so glad you're back!
RHIANNON: Well, you didn't think I'd miss my favorite sister's wedding, did you?
CERI: I'm your only sister.
RHIANNON: Details.
CERI: Well, like I said, I am so happy! Next weekend is gonna be so amazing!

BRADY PUB
SAMI: You're serious?
Sydney had met up with Will, Sami and Lucas at the Brady Pub, and filled them in on what was happening with Allie.
SYDNEY: I wish I weren't, but yeah.
SAMI: This is so unlike her.
LUCAS: I know. Do you have any idea what started this?
SYDNEY: No. I tried to talk to her about it, but she just shut me out.
LUCAS: That's pretty normal behavior for people with this kind of problem.
WILL: I guessed it the morning after she came into town, but this just confirms it. I wish I was wrong.
SYDNEY: So do I. She's gonna hate me for telling you guys.
SAMI: Sydney, honey, she won't hate you. She's your sister. You're just looking out for her.
SYDNEY: She won't see it that way.
LUCAS: Not right away, but someday she will. You did the right thing by telling us.
SYDNEY: Thanks.
SAMI: Well, I suppose we need to talk to her right now.
LUCAS: I'll take care of it. I know what she's going through right now, I've gone through it several times.
Lucas pulled out his phone.
SYDNEY: I don't know if she'll be up yet. She was still recovering when I left.
LUCAS: Well, if not, I'll go over to her.
Lucas dialed a number.
LUCAS: Hey, kid.
Pause.
LUCAS: I'm okay. How are you?
Pause.
LUCAS: Do you think we could get together? Have a little bonding time?
Pause.
LUCAS: No, that's okay. I can pick you up.
Pause.
LUCAS: Sure thing. I'll see you in half an hour.

DORM ROOM
Allie was sitting on the bed.
ALLIE: Okay...see you then.
Pause.
ALLIE: Bye, dad.
Allie hung up the phone and rubbed her face. She sighed.
ALLIE: Great, now I have to get dressed.
She gingerly got up and dug in her suitcase for some clothes.

I can't wait for Allie and Lucas to get some one-on-one time! I want to see how Lucas is going to handle this. Sydney definitely did the right thing, though it will probably cause a rift between her and Allie for a while.

Chapter 10

CAR
Lucas and Allie are sitting in a car. Lucas is driving.
ALLIE: So, where are we going?
LUCAS: The park.
ALLIE: Why?
LUCAS: Oh, you know, I just thought we would be able to talk there. Catch up, that sort of thing. It's been a while since we've seen each other.
They got to the Park. Lucas parked the car, and he and Allie got out and started walking around.
LUCAS: So, what's going on?
ALLIE: Nothing, really. Just been back in town, visiting some friends, hanging out with my sister.
LUCAS: Good. That's good. How was school?
Allie shrugged.
ALLIE: It was okay. Same as always.
LUCAS: What kind of answer is that? You usually love school.
ALLIE: I do. It's just...nothing's new. Same stuff as always.
LUCAS: Hm.
ALLIE: What?
LUCAS: Do you want to tell me what's really going on with you? Because, from what I've seen this last week, you're not yourself.
ALLIE: Why does everybody keep asking me that? I'm fine.
LUCAS: It's just a question.
Allie sighed.
ALLIE: It's nothing. I can handle it.
LUCAS: Yeah, I can tell you've been handling it already.
ALLIE: What's that supposed to mean?
LUCAS: Come on, kid, I'm not blind. I know something's off with you. You know you can tell me anything. If something's wrong, I want to know.
Allie put her hands in her pockets and looked down at the ground.
ALLIE: It's nothing.
LUCAS: It doesn't seem like nothing.
Lucas puts a hand on Allie's shoulder.
LUCAS: What's going on, Allie?
Allie looked up at Lucas. She's crying.
LUCAS: Hey, hey, come here.
Lucas and Allie sat down on a park bench, and Lucas put an arm around Allie.
LUCAS: What's wrong, sweetie?
ALLIE: You're gonna hate me when I say this.
LUCAS: Sweetie, I could never hate you. Never. What's going on?
ALLIE: Daddy...I think I have a problem.
LUCAS: What kind of problem?
ALLIE: I've been drinking. Like, a lot.
LUCAS: What do you define as a lot?
ALLIE: Several glasses of wine, a few shots, and sometimes a couple beers a night.
Allie sighed.
ALLIE: I'm sorry. I just feel really stupid.
LUCAS: Hey, you are not stupid. Unfortunately, this runs in the family.
ALLIE: What do you mean?
LUCAS: Allie, there's a lot of things I've never told you about my past, mostly because I've done lots of stuff I'm not proud of. When I was your age, and for quite a bit of my life, I had a problem with alcohol. Alcoholism runs in our family. That's why your mom and I never have any in the house. When did you find out?
ALLIE: Only just recently. I had my first drink a few years ago, but I started drinking regularly and heavily earlier this year. It all started back when André was killing people a few years ago...

I'm glad Allie was honest with Lucas. I can't wait to hear the rest of her story. Will there be previews André DiMera?

I'm soooo glad that Allie was honest with Lucas.....and that she's already admitting that she has a problem. That's a HUGE step.
