Has anyone else ever been conflicted about writing an important plot point because it means major trouble for a character they really care about? Lately I keep rewriting and trying to find a way around an upcoming event even though I know it's going to be very important for the advancement of the story, because I hate what it's going to do to the character it happens to.
(I hope that's not too abstract. I'm trying not to give away what's going to happen!)

I see what you're saying, heroicmuse. And, yes, I often do feel conflicted because of what I do or intend to do to a character. Particularly in the future arch that I've written. I did several rewrites to the story of Sydney, and what happened to her, as I felt the earliest drafts were too dark. And, even after the story was finished, I kept wondering if what I was doing was too dark. In the end, I guess you kind of have to take a chance. You have to ask yourself where the line between acceptable for story purposes and too dark is. Either way, I'm looking forward to what ever you have in store for us!

Thanks André DiMera. I was very conflicted over Paige's kidnapping as well. I was worried that was too dark too. This next thing isn't nearly that dark though the fallout from it may be. After it airs I will be very interested to see what you think!

Hey heroicmuse, I've been tormenting the same two characters for years. LOL. I honestly try not to write drama for drama's sake, meaning just plot points or moments. Believe it or not, Chloe's date with Grant in Once Upon a Time is not just a plot point or frivolous drama. It serves a purpose. So I would say if tormenting the character adds to the drama in a meaningful way, you should go for it. Don't worry about the characters, worry about the readers. Great question!
