I actually have been watching Y&R on and off for the past several years. These past few months their storylines have been better than DOOL. DOOL seems to resort to the same old recycled stories (i.e. who's the baby daddy drama, using pregnancy as a vehicle to drive characters together or apart, bringing on characters that seemingly have no real storylines of their own and last for short periods of time without really doing much ex. Serena, Xander, Melanie, Paul...what are they going to do with him once Sonny/Will leave?).
But Y&R has it's own different kind of challenges...they seem to like Doppleganger storylines, and for whatever, one of the lead characters (i.e. Victor) always seems to get away with everything, even the maltreatment of women. At least that's how I see it, and I don't want that sort of attitude to be continued on Days. Although the dialogue on Days is far more crude than on Y&R. Days can't even go a few episodes without one female character calling another the B-word, yuck! |

I don't know if this is good or bad news as I have not seen her matierial yet on air to know if she has improved in her writing but the last time she was on, it was the worst for me for 2 of my favourite characters Philip and Chloe. In my opinion Chloe got the worst of Dena,s pen starting from making Chloe go from guy to guy in 2008 something the old Chloe just would not do. She even got married to Lucas of all people, something I just did not see coming. I also never understood why she made Chloe into a prostitute for no reason with Chloe not be able to defend herself at all with Kate not even being punished, also the pairing of Phelanie was the worst in my opinion. Jay/Philip to me literally had nothing to do there were no business storylines for him no drama and no romance, except just to sit around and talk about the same thing over and over with Chloe, worrying about someone finding out about their secret of sleeping together. I have also noticed that coming down to the end Jay looked really bored in his scenes. Maybe that's why he left the quality of the matierial was really boring for him and he just could not deal anymore, and maybe that's also one of the reason's he doesn't want to return, because Dena is there.

I don't really know what's going on. It says she's on personal leave so assume it is something in her personal life and I do hope it's nothing bad. However on some other boards people are speculating that it's not personal and it's a sign that things weren't going well bts. It's hard to imagine that since her stuff hasn't even aired.
We'll just have to see what happens but it's kind of crazy because she hasn't been there very long.
I do agree that she played a big part in the destruction of Chloe and Phloe.

Well, I thought the new writing team was to have their stuff air this month. So I assumed that what we are watching now is Dena's stuff. Am I mistaken?
I am currently happy with what I have seen in the last couple of weeks with Chad, Jennifer, Sonny, and some other characters. I feel as though I am seeing some 3 dimensional characters that I can root for. I am hoping to see more of the same. Regardless of who is on the writing team, here's hoping for strong storylines with character continuity  |

twinklingmoon the new writers work didn't start August 1st. I think it premieres this Monday. It's likely that some tweaks have happened lately because of the new writing team.

A fan posted on Dena Higleys Facebook page saying they hope everything works out for her and she responded, "Thanks. I won't be gone long." So I imagine whatever the issue is involved an illness or other emergency.

Thanks for that info heroicmuse. I was thinking it's probably a family emergency of some kind, but the odd thing is why it got publicized. A leave of absence is a human resources program and didn't need to broadcast, especially if it was only going to be for a few weeks or a month or something like that. |

It seems like Dena was brought on because she knows show history but Josh is the eager one to write for DOOL. He'll do fine without her for a while, I'd imagine. (I hope!! I want to enjoy the show again!)
