I just feel the need to post this. I know everyone is so disappointed that Jay isn't coming back to Days & his character has been recast, but what I think people fail to see is that maybe Jay wasn't happy being an actor. It probably wasn't all it's cracked up to be and he has other passions besides acting like music & writing. Jay is such a private person & doesn't want any part of his life online hence why he never did fb or Twitter so for all we know he is happily married and might have kids. Just bc it isn't online doesn't mean it hasn't happened and the same goes for his acting career or music career. Just bc u can't find it online doesn't mean anything. Jay has to want to be in prime time & in movies and if he doesn't want that, he doesn't want that no matter how much other people want that for him. Everyone should be grateful he is alive and not dead instead of being sad he isn't coming back to Days. Just let him be and give him a break!

I respectfully disagree with the spirit of this post. Jay Kenneth Johnson has legions of fans, and many of them are members of MyHourglass. I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but I feel certain that no one here wants the man to continue to do anything that makes him unhappy. If it's true that he doesn’t like acting, he obviously has a right to do something else or nothing else. It’s his prerogative.
Just as we can’t tell Jay what to do, no one can tell his fans what they should do or how they should or shouldn't feel.
I’ve been a loyal fan and follower of Jay’s for a decade and a half. So of course I was sad when he left. Of course I’m going to be sad he’s not coming back as Philip. Of course I’m going to be disappointed. By definition, being a fan means you want the opportunity to see your favorite performers. And his fans have a right to be sad. But being disappointed that he’s not coming back does not equate to wanting Jay to be unhappy. On the contrary, it's a tribute to him.
The only silver lining about the character returning is that it might provide more fodder for my fanfics, in which Jay WILL portray Philip.

I don't think he needs to be given a break simply because I don't think anyone has been disrespectful or rude or critical or whatever towards him. Maybe on other sites? I don't know. But I certainly haven't seen it here. All I've seen here is love for him. People love him so much that they still post stories about his characters (myself included). I think it's impressive that people would be sad he's not returning to DOOL. That means he left a mark. That's special in today's society where you get your 15 minutes of fame and thats it, if you even get the 15 minutes.
Maybe I'm missing something but I just don't see where anyone has done anything but be fans of Jay. I don't care what he does or doesn't do. I am sad he's not returning to DOOL, but it's just a TV show and hopefully we will love JPL as Phillip. If not, then maybe they'll do better with a recast. Only time will tell, but I am glad that the character of Philip is coming back to the show! Victor needs his REAL son in Salem.
I'm actually hoping that we see some resentment and emotion from Philip toward Daniel. I know Daniel (I'm sorry ... Dr. God) is the son Victor never had and everyone loves and adores his presence in their lives, but it'd be really interesting for me to see Philip dealing with the fact that his father dotes on Daniel and yet he (Philip) is the real son.

I would love to see that as well. I know Victor loves Philip, but he certainly is hard on him, never giving him the benefit of the doubt. He seems to dote not only on Dr Dan, but Brady as well... and, Daniel's disgust and treatment of Philip after he discovered Philip had slept with Chloe, totally hypocritical .. this coming from the guy who was sleeping with Kate, Philip's mom and Chelsea, Philip's niece at the same time..... and then later had an affair with Chloe before and after she was married to Lucas, Philip's brother... REALLY!!!! |

I understand Victor being easier on his grandson than on his son. I think that is pretty common in many families. I don't understand Victor treating his godson far better than he treats his own son.

If Tomlin/Whitesell were still writing, I'd not even bothering hoping that we get to see some resentment toward Dan, but I'm at least going to hold out hope for Higley/Griffin. I think she had the Daniel love bug too but she wasn't IN LOVE with him to the degree of our current writers. I get tired of the cliche stories, but some conflict about Victor's preference for Daniel over Philip would be welcomed!

I shouted from the roof tops when I read his character had been recast. I praise him for be able tto leave in the first place and never look back. He is def a lot more happy now then he ever was on Days & I couldn't be more happy for him!!!! He deserves to be nothing but happy so I'm happy he finally found the happiness he has been searching for all along!

Are you and Jay close friends that he has confided this to you because I was never aware of Jay hating being on Days, and he never expressed those feelings publically. As you yourself said, Jay is a private person who doesn't use social media so this information would have needed to come to you first hand, directly from Jay himself. So how often do you and Jay talk to one another and was this recently that he expressed his feelings about Days and not wanting to return. Very curious how you obtained this first-hand information about Jay. |

i have to agree with both of you. how could She know jay hated being on Days unless she was a close friend of his. and if she is..i honestly think jay would be upset or pissed off that such info was broad casted on a public forum. jay has a rep to protect not to mention he is a private person  |

Just saw this thread - first of all, I have seen absolutely no disrespect towards Jay (as a person, not a character) at any point on this board....and I've been a member almost since the beginning. This board is full of members who absolutely LOVE Jay & his dimples. As to what Jay decides to do with his life, that is very much his business to make the decisions. No one here can make them for him. We can pray, hope, and hold our breath until our faces turn blue until he returns, but everyone of us here know that it is his decision and his alone. It's no different than holding your breath when you start checking out the concert schedule of your favorite artist. You hope and pray and do your best to appeal to that person/group to come to your area but ultimately know that you have no say in it. Still doesn't stop that hope in any way
As to how Jay himself felt about certain roles (Days or otherwise) - again, only he can voice that. it's not anyone's place to come on this board to speak for Jay or for anyone else. Days was a part of his career.....and whether he liked it or not, he portrayed Phillip for several years, through multiple contracts (1999-2011). Something must have been right somewhere for him to come back and for him stay on.
I admit that I do not know Jay personally (but I sure would love to), however, I don't think that someone so private would publicly denounce the show that he is most famous for. I really just don't see him biting the hand that fed him (and I could be very wrong about that. again, I don't know him or his feelings, I only know what I've seen/heard through interviews). I hope that whatever he's doing, and whatever life circumstances he's got going on (marriage, kids, single, whatever), that he's happy.
