I heard A Martinez plays Eve's ex and Paige's dad It would make more sense if he was Rafe and Gabi's dad.

Rumor has it that Paige, Rafe and Gabi share a father. I don't know how I feel about that. I also don't see a point to giving Paige a father if she's leaving and may end up dead.

I think I saw that Greg Vaughn's contract was extended. I like him so I'm glad and I hope it means he's getting a much better storyline soon. This whole time with Serena was pretty awful. I was even starting to think he might be the murderer but now I'm guessing he's not.

I have a couple of questions about these recent comings/goings. Hopefully someone can help?
- I imagine that many of the "elders/veterans" of the show that are making their returns are doing so timing wise to celebrate the 50th year of DOOL (i.e. Bo, Steve, Bell, Shawn, Andre, recast of Phillip, ...etc.). If so, is the plan just to keep them on for a brief time to "celebrate" 50 years of the show, or will they have actual storylines that continue and progress with the show? In other words, are these "temporary" returns...short term only?
- If the purpose of these shows is to pay homage to past characters/storylines/DAYS history, can someone please tell me the point of bringing back this Ava character? I don't remember her having any real purpose or adding anything to the show. Am I misremembering? I only remember her as someone who caused a rift between the newly "brought-back-from-the-dead" John, (courtesy of EJ), and Marlena. I remember wondering "what was the point of bringing him back if he isn't even going to be with Marlena?" What am I forgetting here?
- I also have read that the reason the network is making a "big bang' on the 50th with all of these returns is that the network is actually planning on cancelling the show but just wants to get to the 50th year. After year 51, it's Bye-Bye Salem. What are everyone's thoughts?
- Since they are bringing back all of these veterans, what are the chances that Abe will actually get a storyline? I don't think he's had one since Lexi died?
- I think it's crazy to have Ciara and Theo aged-up during Abby's pregnancy. She will go from just finding out she's pregnant after an event she got persuaded into attending because Theo wanted her to go swimming in the park (on the 4th of july?) to having a baby in 9 months, during which time Theo will have aged how many years, ha! ha! It's just silly to me because that whole scene with Abby and Ben going to the park with Chad and Theo was set-up in a way that Abby couldn't say no because Theo was too immature/had special needs and couldn't accept that Chad/Abby were not together. He still wanted/expected her to be there when he wanted. And now he'll be a teen before she even has the baby that caused her to have nausea during the pregnancy of said picnic. I don't know if what I am trying to say is making sense on the screen, but it makes sense in my head, ha! ha!
- I am also curious about the long-term strategy of Daytime at NBC. I have a friend who said to me she doesn't know who the audience is for daytime t.v. as it's such a mixed bag of odd shows. Well, we all know soaps have been cancelled left and right in recent years, although once upon a time they were a daytme staple. So I can't help but wonder who is the network trying to attract with the return of the veteran characters? Baby-boomers? The young generation that advertisers try to reach are not even going to know who these characters are, as many are from before their time. And I have to wonder will folks in their 20s-30s care about storylines focused on people in their 50s-60s. They are in a different stage in life so the stories may not be as enthralling to them. Which brings me back to boomers. Maybe the show is trying to recapture its lost audience who has not been interested in the show for some time and hopefully will return. Any thoughts?
Okay, mods please feel free to move my post if it belongs elsewhere on the forum. Thanks!

twinklingmoon I believe that some returns are long term contracts and some people are returning for the short term. The returning characters are a variety of ages. They aren't all people in their 50's and 60's. Belle, Shawn and Philip are characters in their 30's. Ava is probably 40-ish. The awesome thing about soaps is seeing the generations of family interacting. I enjoy characters of different ages not just the ones my age.

I too enjoy watching these shows because you get to see families for generations. I am just not convinced that the 20-something group that advertisers are so keen on capitalizing on are as interested. I think that is a large reason why we hardly get a build up for storylines and couples anymore. They seem to "rush" everything, as our collective attention span seems to have shortened. I have the impression based on what airs on T.V. now, that the younger viewers (who are more often sought after than older viewers) are into reality programming rather than scripted shows. I think the scripted shows they follow which are more "soap-like" stories, have characters closer to their own 20s-30s age group, with a dose of supernatural elements thrown in. I tend to think of the CW network which is full of these type of shows...Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill (both off the air now), but then there is the Vampire Diaries and The 100, and Reign. Plus, these shows air in the evening, not during date time.
I suspect that the daytime audience is now an older group than perhaps 30-40years ago. More folks, women in particular, are in the workforce now than previously. People are also working longer hours, delaying retirement. So folks that are able to watch more regularly probably are retired or DVR the shows/watch via alternate means than live from the television, which I assume impacts the ratings.

I wish Mike Horton was coming back. He was such an important part of the early days of DAYS.

Why isn't Stephanie Johnson coming back? With the rest of her family in town, it doesn't make sense for her to be absent. After reading unavitasegreta's Second Time Around, I would really love Stephanie to come back.

The show never valued the character or realized the importance she should have in the future of Days of Our Lives. Even when the red head plaid her they never knew what to do with her.

I saw on Daytime Royalty today that Camilla Banus is going to be on a new show called "Snowfall" about a drug dealer in the 80's. She plays his daughter I think. Someone also posted a synopsis of an interview with the actor who plays Ben. It was about him being the killer and how he found out and felt about it. It sure made it sound like he really is the killer AND it mentioned that he is working on a movie now, which is why I'm posting this in here.
Both of these things made me think the two actors are no longer on Days. That makes pretty good sense for Ben since I don't know how he could stick around too long once he's caught. Not sure about Camilla. She could work on both projects but I do wonder if her return is a short one. I know we have more serial killer victims to come. Haven't heard any hints about who might be next.

With Shawn-Douglas returning with/for his teen daughter and sister, why isn't Stephanie coming home to be around for her parents and Joey?
