Are you kidding me?! Why do people care so much about a dumb character like Xander? What's so great about him? Just let him go. He's done, finished! I think that petition to save Sonny circulating around the Internet makes much more sense.

It's hard to imagine anything can be done with the show shooting so many months in advance. That's why I hate that. They can't respond to fan reaction. I do think the actor is very good. I wouldn't mind him being sort of a recurring character who pops up from time to time to cause trouble, kind of like Kristen. sevenna92 I think Freddie Smith wanted to leave. I do hope they keep the character though because I love Sonny. |

I thought there was potential in adding a charming dark character. Making him Victor's nephew seemed like a plus. The actor did an excellent job in conveying menace and also a vulnerability.

I thought so too kathyj. I think there was a lot of potential for Xander. He could have been useful in dealing with Clyde. |

Paul Telfer is such a talented actor. The character is evil but the actor is a joy to watch. I too wish his role was such that he would have been integrated into the Kiriakis family and eventually accepted by Victor.

Well there might have been potential with Xander but like so many characters under Tomsell/Whitsell he was basically ruined from the start. I think giving him that ridiculous backstory giving him ties to Dan and Brady and having him essentially have the same name as Sonny's older brother also hurt him a lot. I think also having him be the type that slaps women around is another turn off, at least for me. Women beaters and child molesters are the two types of people I really despise. Oh yeah and putting him in Serena's storyline also did a lot of damage to his character.
It's a shame that Freddie Smith wants to leave though, and I think his departure may very well be putting the final nail in the coffin for Will/Sonny.
And FYI, even if the writers could respond to fan reaction, it's not like they would want to anyway. They're just going to do whatever they want. I think it is also possible that the new writers might also let go of a couple of the characters introduced under the former regime too because of possible lack of story potential and also poor fan reaction.
