Overall, I'd say it was a boring night. Kirk Douglas was the most exciting part, but for all the wrong reasons. I was afraid he was going to croak right there in front of billions of people. James Franco seemed high most of the night, which I guess is not all that surprising. Anne was enthusiastic, but overly so. I wouldn't call it the WORST Oscars ever, but it was hardly a good night.
As for the fashion, I thought Cate Blanchett looked awful!!! Somebody tweeted that her dress looked like a sad combination of a grandmother's chair, lobster bib, and picture frame all rolled into one. Wack-a-doo Helena Bohnam Carter is usually so out there (in a fun way), but even she was boring in black. The rest of the women looked nice. I don't remember anyone looking spectacular.
Of course, all of that is JMO, and I can't wait to see what others thought.

I thought Cate Blanchet's dress looked like a cameo necklace. I didn't care for it at all. I felt that Anne Hathaway was trying too hard and what was with all the dress changes? Yes, we all know you have a great bod, but it was a little over the top to keep changing clothes. Loved Kirk Douglas! I see that he had to have someone constantly directing him, but that was okay. He was pretty cute. He has aged so much that unfortunately this may be his last oscars. He was a great actor in his day.

I only watched the very end, from the best actors to best movie so I can't really critique!
Didn't even see any of the nominated movies.

Poor Anne Hathaway seemed hyper (but looked great)...but in comparison w/ James Franco last night, who wouldn't? Dresses in general were nice...standout dresses for me were Halle Berry's, Amy Adams', Helen Mirren's, and that cute little girl from True Grit (WHY can't I remember her name??). Less than spectacular? Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock (that bow on the back of her dress looked like she'd brought a pillow along to sit on...ruined an otherwise beautiful dress), Helena Bonham Carter (I expected more...something...from her), Melissa Leo (grandma's doily...really). Among the men, Hugh Jackman, Justin Timberlake, Colin Firth all selected beautiful tuxes. I miss Denzel Washington--he always selects something fabulous and wears it so well! Last night just seemed to drag, in general. I missed what they've been doing the last two years with the Best Actor/Actress nominees...the more personal intros. Kirk Douglas and Billy Crystal were the highlights of the evening--I even thought Robert Downey, Jr. wasn't bad...which doesn't say much for the telecast as a whole since I'm not a fan! Yes...I admit that I have a problem. I am obsessed with awards shows.
