Chapter 4
OUTSIDE THE BRADY PUB
Lucas' car pulled in to the parking lot. Sydney, Ceri and Lucas got out.
LUCAS: Nice parking job.
SYDNEY: Thanks. It feels really good to finally be able to drive.
LUCAS: I'll bet.
Sydney looked around.
SYDNEY: Where's mom? I thought you said she was meeting us. I don't see her car anywhere.
LUCAS: She is. She must be running late again.
SYDNEY: Oh.
LUCAS: Come on, let's go inside.
BRADY PUB
Sydney, Lucas and Ceri walked in. Sami popped up from a booth.
SAMI: Surprise!
SYDNEY: Mom?
Sami and Sydney ran to each other and hugged.
SAMI: Congratulations on getting your license, baby girl!
SYDNEY: Thanks! Wait a minute, how did you get here? Where's your car?
SAMI: I drove. My car's at home.
SYDNEY: Then, who's car did you drive?
SAMI: You'll see. Come on, let's take a seat.
Sami led the three to a booth. Sydney and Ceri sat down.
SAMI: Hey, general.
LUCAS: Hey, troublemaker.
Sami and Lucas kissed.
SAMI: Nice to see you, Ceri. Glad you could come.
CERI: Thanks, Mrs. Horton. It's nice to see you, too.
The four sat down and ordered dinner. It came, and they ate. A little while later, they were having ice cream. Sami and Lucas gave each other a look.
SAMI: You think it's time?
LUCAS: I think she's waited long enough.
The two smiled.
SYDNEY: What? What's going on?
SAMI: Well, we're here to celebrate you getting your license. And, we had planned this around the time of your birthday, but we wanted to wait until you officially got it.
SYDNEY: Planned what?
SAMI: Come outside.
Lucas put some money down on the table, and the four walked out.

Sami took a set of keys out of her pocket and handed them to Sydney.
SAMI: These are yours.
Sydney blinked.
SYDNEY: What?
SAMI: Well, unlock them, and see which one it is.
Sydney clicked the “unlock” button. The headlights of a bluish-purple 2015 Hyundai Genesis flashed.
SYDNEY: You got me a car?
LUCAS: Yep, we did.
SYDNEY: And it's my favorite color!
SAMI: Consider this a late birthday/early graduation present.
SYDNEY: Oh my gosh! I love it! Thank you so much!!
Sydney hugged Sami and Lucas.
SAMI: You're welcome, baby girl. We're glad you like it.
SYDNEY: Can I take it for a spin now?
LUCAS: Sure. Go ahead.
SAMI: Just remember to wear your seatbelt.
SYDNEY: I will.
SAMI: And keep your headlights on.
SYDNEY: I know.
SAMI: And make sure that when you come to a crosswalk, that you wa...
SYDNEY: “Watch for people, because they won't be watching for me”. I will. I promise.
SAMI: Okay. Good luck.
SYDNEY: Thanks.
Sydney hugged Sami and Lucas again. Then, she hugged Ceri.
SYDNEY: Thanks for coming with me.
CERI: I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. So, let's go for a spin.
SYDNEY: Come on.
Sydney and Ceri got in the car. Sydney rolled down the window.
LUCAS: Have fun, you two!
SYDNEY: We will! Bye, mom. Bye, Lucas.
CERI: Good to see you again, Mr. and Mrs. Horton.
SYDNEY: I love you guys!
SAMI: We love you, too, Sydney. Bye, Ceri.
Sydney rolled up the window and started up her new car.
