This is not breaking news, but I thought it was a good article for those who haven't seen it yet.Days of our Lives' Cast Exodus BeginsFollowing behind the scenes changes in February with new head writers and the re-shuffling of producers in March, NBC’s “Days of our Lives” will soon gear up production for its 50th anniversary celebration without several of its leading younger talents. Molly Burnett (Melanie Jonas), Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) and Melissa Archer (Serena Mason) are all reportedly said to be departing the daytime drama series in the weeks and months ahead, at least onscreen. First reported as a rumor by Daytime Confidential in March, the newest issue of Soap Opera Digest confirms that Archer has already wrapped filming and will last air sometime within the next five months – a result of the daytime dramas current production model, which is in dire need of an overhaul. Archer first aired in December 2014, but began filming scenes at the soap in July. Also leaving within the next five months is Freddie Smith, whose character is currently the centerpiece of the soap’s popular love triangle, which also includes Paul Narita (Christopher Sean) and Will Horton (Guy Wilson). Smith is reported to have wrapped filming over two weeks ago. He joined the soap in June 2011, just as reports of Will (then played by Chandler Massey) getting ready to come out began to surface. In the case of Burnett, “DAYS” online encyclopedia and historian, Jason47.com, is reporting that the actress has also already completed filming at the soap. It’s stated that Burnett completed her six-month run in December and will last air in May. The show, nor representatives for the actors, has confirmed any of the upcoming departures. Does anyone think that maybe Melanie is going to "die" or go missing in Italy, or maybe be put into a Jan Spears coma by Mandrake, and that's how her character will exit?

That'd be great - so long as it is Kristen's fault and NOT blamed on Theresa!

That could be.
I wonder if she will decide to stay in Europe with her mom after all of the craziness with Kristen and the baby.

I wonder if she will decide to stay in Europe with her mom after all of the craziness with Kristen and the baby. I would be perfectly fine with her being dead, missing, and/or just staying in Europe. However, I'd prefer she just stay in Europe with Carly so that we don't have to suffer through a months-long mourning period in Salem. If a Jonas ever died, can you guys imagine the distress? Every character would be dressed in black for months, crying endlessly. They'd probably even rename Horton Square.

LOL. Horton-Jonas Town Square. Maggie would be inconsolable. She cries a river when a loved one goes on vacation.

It's got to be the Melanie Jonas Memorial Town Square. Alice and Tom got a plaque. But Alice and Tom were merely the foundation of the entire show and its success for five decades. Melanie is ... well, she's clearly incomparable. She'll warrant a statue.
