First off, I find the story interesting...not because it is or isn't about gays, but because I like the actors involved and it seems very real and it's different and it doesn't involve EJ......the character of Sonny seems to me to be a big success, the character of Will has come into his own and of course, Victor is always Victor...just when you want to throttle him for his rude and archaic opinions and statements and attacks, he wins you over by being a good decent person....... But, (and isn't there always a but?), is it National Coming Out Day?....Are Justin and Adrienne simple minded....?? What's the deal with all the grins and stupid comments about their son being gay and he's gone to announce it to Victor and on and on and on and on.....It's like, oh my God, it's July 12th, it's THE day, we must let everyone know our son is gay and that we love him anyway or life will end as we know it.... And what was that crap at Victor's.... Victor is saying to Sonny what any open minded, thinking, intelligent person would say to their loved one when informed they are homosexual.....i.e. Your life may be harder because of this, and not all people will be accepting and I feel for you...I don't want to see you have to go through it and be hurt by it...are you ready for it...?? And Adrienne and Justin take offense to this...?? Yes, I do believe they are simple minded......they are the reverse racist/bigoted/homophobic.....if you talk to a gay, treat a gay, look at a gay, as you would any other person in your life than you are being racist/bigoted homophobic....isn't the point that you don't feel differently about them because of their sexual preference (gender/nationality/religion/race etc) that you treat them as a person, not as a "gay".....seems Justin and Adrienne want to pigeon hole Sonny, to set him aside as being "special", make him different..... But the story is just starting so I should give them a chance to evolve and not be so simple minded and irritating....or maybe they will just go back to wherever it was they were before and let Sonny/Will/Victor shine....

To me, Adrienne and Justin seemed like they were being the mouthpiece for a gay organization and/or TPTB preaching at us and letting us know that this is the way we, the viewers, should be thinking.
The best part of the story so far was Victor and Sonny, and we didn't need Adrienne and Justin entering the scene only to jump to conclusions. Ironically, they are the ones who are being closed-minded and prejudice, not about gays, but about Victor.

It definitely seemed like J&A were doing the public service announcement part of the show. They were talking all about a support organization. It's good to put the info out there for viewers but they seemed to go on and on. I don't think that they along with Maggie should have busted in and interrupted the conversation between Sonny and Victor.

I get why they're being overprotective of Sonny, but yeah, of course it has to be written with all the subtlety of a mack truck crashing through Victor's living room. "WE'RE SUPPORTIVE! WE LOVE OUR GAY SON!!!" I expected Adrienne to come sashaying in wearing a rainbow dress while Justin blasted Madonna on a boombox.
That said, I am enjoying this so far. Sonny, the character and actor, are appealing, and it's interesting to see Justin and Adrienne involved in something significant. Plus it's such a different type of situation for this show: something people in real life deal with it! So far, so good.

I didn't get what you all got, LOL. Sorry...
I got that Justin/Adrienne was very supportive of their son and didn't want Vic (someone Sonny loves and respects) to be horrible to him. They heard the trail end of the conversation. As a mama bear, Adrienne was defensive. I think I'd be, too.
And, I'm glad they did the PSA for PFLAG. I wanted to give Days a kudos for that, and for the way it was handled.

I get they were trying to protect Sonny and as parents they would try to do that. What I didn't like was Adrienne trying to downplay the reality when she said Sonny didn't need to hear about the "rough" parts today. Umm, if he came out to his parents a few years ago and I'm assuming he's been living somewhat openly during his travels, he's bound to have encountered prejudice already. It's a legitimate concern of Victor's to be concerned for Sonny's well-being and safety. I agree with Mikey, it wasn't subtle at all, but overall I did appreciate what they were doing.

I'd rather it go down like this than it never have happened at all. The preaching will die down and Sonny will still be gay. Either way, I'm happy the show is embracing this kind of storyline and has moved into the 21st century.

They are dealing with a today issue in a very 1970's way right now. They are treading very lightly right now because it is territory they have never ventured into before.

I agree with Trey. I thought it was well done. I would have done the same thing had I walked in on a tail end of a conversation that way. I loved too that they gave a shout out to the PFLAG. I enjoyed all the scenes. Loved hearing them reminisce with Maggie about when he was a kid too.
I look forward to more of this story. A lot. Considering I was upset in the beginning that Will was going to be in a gay storyline, I find myself looking more and more forward to it. Though I feel kind of sorry for Gabbi.

While I agree that Adrienne was a bit over the top,she knows Vic and she knows he's capable of being insensitive, rude and just downright nasty. The thing is though, how many of us over the last little while have been concerned that Vic wouldn't take it well for exactly those reasons? Can we really blame Adrienne for going in with guns blazing?
I have to say that I enjoyed the shout out to PFLAG as well.Yes it was a bit "in your face"informative, but at least Days is giving this story a shot. They won't get everything right I'm sure, some fans will be satisfied, some won't,but that's the risk you take with a story like this.
I didn't take Justin and Adrienne's scene with Maggie quite the way other people did.I took it as parents who are proud of their son and aren't ashamed to admit that he's gay.The only thing I wasn't fond of was Adrienne's comment "You didn't need this today"or whatever it was. What made today different from any other day?Sonny is going to be met with simplemindedness, hatred, bigotry (sorry can't spell right now, lol) and every other nasty thing under the sun.He has to be able to handle it if he's going to come out to friends and family.
I have to also say that over all,I'm very impressed so far.I don't usually take to a character right away, but Sonny is a big hit so far for me.I hope Days continues to bring us something compelling, sensitive, yet informative.Kudos to them for telling a story about an issue faced by so many teens and young adults today.

I have to also say that over all,I'm very impressed so far.I don't usually take to a character right away, but Sonny is a big hit so far for me. I sometimes take to a character quickly. I did with Abigail, but she sometimes drives me nuts. Sonny on the other hand, I love him. I could use a good dose of him on every episode! LOL He was meant to play this part. He has such great chemistry with everyone I have seen him onscreen with.

GG, I agree wholeheartedly about Sonny. From his first moment onscreen, he felt as though he belonged in Salem.

For those who don't know, PFLAG = Parents, Families and Friends of Gays and Lesbians. Thanks! I didn't know... But I do know that part of Victor's speech was incorrect... I would hope writers would do some research instead of preaching! That annoys me.
