Chapter 29
NOVOTEL CAIRNS – CAIRNS, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
Nicole and Mia are unpacking their suitcases.
MIA: So, what's the plan for tomorrow?
NICOLE: Oh, you'll see. I've got stuff planned for tomorrow, the next day, and then we'll have a day to relax, and then on to Sydney.
MIA: Exciting.
NICOLE: Oh, it is.
MIA: I'm really glad we came here, mom. I love this trip!
NICOLE: So do I. Now, about tomorrow, remember how beautiful the sunrise and sunset off Ayers Rock were?
MIA: How could I forget?
NICOLE: Well, get ready for something equally as beautiful.
MIA: Awesome! I can't wait!
NICOLE: Me either!
The Next Day
DAINTREE NATIONAL PARK
Nicole and Mia were standing in a queue, waiting to get in.
MIA: So, what is this place?
NICOLE: A national park.
MIA: I know that, I mean what are we going to do?
NICOLE: You ever seen a rainforest before?
MIA: No.
NICOLE: Get ready.
MIA: Are you serious? A rainforest?
NICOLE: Yeah. That's what the park is surrounding.
MIA: Awesome!
A short while later, the queue got to Nicole and Mia, who stepped inside a small, two-seater cable car. A Park Ranger had come by.
PARK RANGER: Please keep your heads and arms inside the car at all times. And, most importantly, enjoy the ride.
NICOLE: We will.
The Park Ranger shut the door to the cable car, which slowly began to move. Soon, they were able to see trees below them.
MIA: How hi up are we?
NICOLE: No idea, but it's above the trees.
MIA: So, that's the rainforest down there?
NICOLE: Yep.
MIA: Wow! It looks really cool!
NICOLE: Just wait until we get closer.
A short while later, the cable car had taken them down inside the rainforest. It was lush and green, and filled with wildlife.
MIA: This is amazing!
Nicole nodded. A kaleidoscope of butterflies, mostly blue, but a few green, flew around the cable car. Mia pointed towards a tree.
MIA: What's that?
Nicole turned to look where she was pointing. Hanging from the trees were
some large black and orange creatures.
MIA: They look like bats, but they're way too big.
NICOLE: Those are bats. A specific type of bats. I heard about those from a friend. They're called flying foxes, because of how big they are, as well as the orange color some of them are.
MIA: Awesome!
