If you were one of the new writers, what would be on your to-do list in terms of story and characters and anything else?

Write GOOD storylines for Nicole, Teresa and Eve. I'd like to see an interesting back story for Teresa.

Fire Paige and Ben!
End the Brady/Melanie 'romance'.
Turn Nicole back into the fabulous bitch who didn't give a sh*t what others thought about her and never apologized unless if was for a self-serving reason.
Give Theresa some back story and motivation for her behavior and attitude toward.
Find Rafe a woman who isn't boring or fire him too.
Let Eve 'play' with the adults rather than be fodder for a stupid teenage love story that lacks any love or romance.

First order of business: give Theresa a good and plausible backstory to explain her actions. Also expand her social interactions with other people by giving her one other friend besides Anne. Also give her more viable love interests from either gender. I would also have her have some role in her baby's life and have her and Brady co-parent. That's about it.
I would kill off Ben, Clyde and Paige. I would give Eve her singing voice back or at least have her be a mentor for aspiring singers or be a music teacher.
I would bring in some of the minor supporting characters to the forefront like Rory, Bev, and Anne.
I would give J.J. a new love interest.
I would expand Paul's family as much as possible. Maybe have one of his relatives be a major crime boss back in Japan. Maybe he could prove to be a good foil for Victor and Stefano.
I would have Nicole adopt a kid and just be done with it already.
Have Hope and Aiden continue their relationship and eventually marry and have kids.
I would reunite Jack/Jennifer and Steve/Kayla if possible. If not give them different love interests for the time being.
And that's about it I guess.

Some of these thoughts may not be too popular, but here goes:
-Ship the entire Poplar Bluff family out of Salem and move on with the show as if they never existed.
-Same goes for Eve and Paige. I was hopeful when Eve first came to town, but now think it's best for them to cut their losses and stop wasting time on this Eve/JJ/Paige story that has received mixed reaction at best. As long as Paige and Eve remain in Salem, it will never truly be over, so my vote is to have them make a quick exit.
-Put a stop to the Brady/Melanie romance and send Melanie packing.
-Give John and Marlena an actual S/L.
-Backburn Daniel Jonas for a long time
-Reunite Eric and Nicole
-Have Jennifer and her grown children move out of the Horton house and let Hope have a place to call her own for a while.
-Bring Doug and Julie back to town permanently.
-Continue the Hope and Aiden romance
-Reunite Steve and Kayla
-Bring Kim and Shane back to Salem

Oh! I forgot to add that I want the new writers to reveal that Jack is alive and that person who came back and died in the elevator was not Jack. Honestly, they don't even have to explain it. I would be willing to just accept any flimsy reason if it means we get Jack back!

Oh....I could go on for days and days...
1. Lucas. Give the man a storyline. I'm so desperate for this to happen that the storyline doesn't even have to include him shirtless. You have NO idea what a sacrifice that is for me.
2. Aiden=nice guy. And happy with Hope.
3. Poplar Bluff never happened.
4. Jonas family goes off to Uruguay or something for a while. With or without Jennifer...I don't care much anymore.
5. Justin back in Salem, happily married to Adrienne, who loses her ability to stick her nose in other people's business.
6. Either mature Will OR break up Sonny and Will. I hate this, but...Will is just a jerk.
7. Real storylines for Doug and Julie as well as Victor and Maggie. Caroline, too. Have we really seen her since Sami left town?
8. Eve and JJ never happened. Eve goes away...far, far away. Perhaps to Poplar Bluff?
9. Give T a storyline. He's entertaining, at least!
10. Do something--anything--about Theresa. She's so one-dimensional that it hurts. Give me SOME reason to care about her.
11. Bring the gutsy Nicole back....this one is killing me.
12. Turn Kate's brain back on.
13. Send Abigail away...far, far away. Perhaps to Poplar Bluff? (Poplar Bluff can be the new upstairs.)
14. Bring Philip and Chloe back. (You're welcome.)

melly, #14 is my favorite (I know, you're in shock!) but I also adore your idea of making Poplar Bluff the new "upstairs" or (Melaswen). Melaswen still exists, right? (Why not?!) We could totally send Clyde, Ben, Abigail, Jordan, Kate, Paige, Eve, and so many others there! They'd never even know they aren't in Salem. As an added plus, Bo and Jack are MIA so there'd be no one to go rescue them! |

Restore both Daniel and Nicole to being people who don't care what others think about them instead of being these dopplegangers that I don't recognize most of the time who live to impress people like Jennifer and Eric who have impossibly high standards. Then put them back together and this time no contrived out of character angst tearing them apart.
Undo JJ and Eve somehow. I don't care how. But that needs to be fixed, and JJ needs to get back on the path he was on before he inexplicably fell off the wagon just to suit the plot. (Also this apparent rule that there can be only one recovering addict doing well at a time has to go. When JJ was doing well Brady was not, now Brady is doing well and JJ is not--that has to change.)
Put Eve into a storyline that makes more sense, like a triangle between Eric and Brady, while allowing her to continue to be a mentor to Theresa.
Give Theresa a backstory. Also, send her to rehab for a little while while retooling her character and then she can come back and we're not sure if she's really changed or if it's just an act again. Bring back Shane and Kim on at least a recurring basis to interact with their wayward daughter(s).
Write some sort of story about Jen's mental illness, partially as a plausible excuse for her wacky behavior of the past several years and partially because Melissa Reeves deserves something meaty instead of this garbage.
Undo any damage that has been done to Aiden's character and make sure he and Hope stay together and get some decent stories that don't involve bake sales or other PTA functions.
Find something for Rory and Bev to do besides make stupid comments or engage in juvenile hijinks.
Get a love interest for T.
Get rid of dead weight (aka the Westons).
